PIONEERING SOLAR TECHNOLOGY FOR CONSTRUCTION SITES On the barrack rooftops on Implenia Norway’s complex infrastructure projects, over 1000 solar panels gleam in the sunlight. With their self-developed modular and portable solar power system, Implenia Norway are pioneers in the construction industry – lowering both emissions and cost. The panels provide the barracks with all the power they need for daily operations, such as cooling, heating, showers and cooking. At the E03 Rogfast and Tangenvika projects, solar panels also provide electricity for electric vehicles. "By developing our own wooden fixtures, we have made a flexible modular system which can be applied to all our projects. Power cabinets are detached from barracks and can easily be removed. All this makes it easy and cost-efficient to adapt our use as the project evolves and reuse solar panels at other projects," says Head of electrical at Implenia Norway, Lars Rise. A THIRD COHORT FOR THE "CAS REBUILD UKRAINE" – HOW TO TRANSFORM AN INDUSTRIAL SITE INTO A SUSTAINABLE LIVING DISTRICT   On November 13th, Implenia hosted 25 Ukrainian students from the "CAS Rebuild Ukraine" program of the Berner Fachhochschule BFH at the Lokstadt areal in Winterthur. This is already the 3rd cohort and Implenia is happy to contribute to this new group of ambitious students. The program, originally designed by Thomas Rohner for Ukrainian refugees with experience in the construction and real estate sector, focuses on learning practical and theoretical methods to help rebuild infrastructure and buildings in the Ukraine. The Implenia team enjoyed sharing insights on how we plan, build and develop Lokstadt as well as an expert talks on sustainability and the topic of special foundations in the Lokstadt site development. 👉Karel van Eechoud, Head Innovation explained Implenia’s commitment to sustainable construction and the mission and vision of the company 👉Ladina Steiner, Project Leader Rocket & Tigerli gave an overview of the status and future outlook of the Lokstadt site development 👉Yves Deluz, Senior Sustainability Specialist, delivered insights on the Lokstadt sustainability strategy, as well as practical tips on how to consider sustainability along the project lifecycle. 👉Duncan Moore, Lead Technical Office, Special Foundations Switzerland and geotechnical expert at Implenia has taken the students along the history of the soil mechanics and foundations that have been hidden under Lokstadt Implenia is again grateful for this opportunity to share our knowledge and insights to support this group of changemakers tasked with a big challenge. NEUES GEBÄUDE FÜR DIE FREIBURGER BERUFSBILDUNG: CAMPUS LE VIVIER IN VILLAZ-ST-PIERRE (FRIBOURG) EINGEWEIHT 🎓 Es ist ein atypisches, zugleich beispielhaftes und komplexes Projekt, das nun übergeben wurde, nachdem es 2020 bei einem Wettbewerb an Implenia vergeben worden war. Der Campus Le Vivier, das neue kantonale Berufsbildungszentrum, wurde letzte Woche offiziell eingeweiht und beherbergt seit Beginn des Schuljahres bereits 400 Lernende und 40 Lehrkräfte. Zehn Berufsverbände profitieren von den neuen Werkstätten und Einrichtungen, um zukunftsorientierte Ausbildungen in rund 30 Berufen anzubieten. Bauherr ist die Vereinigung des Kantonalen Berufsbildungszentrums (VKBZ), die von Vistonia AG, Groupe E und EMCO Management unterstützt wird. Implenia führte nicht nur die Baumeister- und Tiefbauarbeiten aus, sondern leitete auch als Totalunternehmerin - in Zusammenarbeit mit rund 40 Freiburger Unternehmen, Fachplanern und Subunternehmern - die Planung und Ausführung des Projekts (mit Hilfe von BIM).   NACHHALTIGKEIT: Das Projekt, das mit dem Label Minergie P-Eco ausgezeichnet wurde, setzt auf Holzbau (15 km Holzbalken), lokale Energieproduktion (4000 m² Solarpanels) und Biodiversität in den Aussenanlagen.   Wir danken insbesondere dem Bauherrn für sein Vertrauen, den Berufsverbänden für ihre proaktive Zusammenarbeit sowie allen Partnern, Fachplanern und Subunternehmern für ihren Beitrag zu diesem Erfolg. FROM A PART-TIME STUDENT TO PROJECT MANAGER OF THE SOFIA METRO STATION IN STOCKHOLM: SIGRID GUNNEMARK'S JOURNEY AT IMPLENIA Sigrid Gunnemark has worked at Implenia for over 10 years, building an impressive career within the company. What once started as a student job alongside her master's studies later led to her role as Project Manager for Stockholm’s "Sofia Station", located around 100 metres underground. We met with Sigrid to discuss her journey and the work involved in building the world’s second deepest subway station. I’ve had a long journey internally. I started working with tenders and did that for many years, then I was involved in the first few years of the Varberg Tunnel project together with that project management. After that, I was the commercial manager for both Slussen SN91 and here at Sofia before becoming the project manager here last year. I’ve built my career at Implenia. I was hired as a student in 2012 while studying my master’s at Chalmers University of Technology. ❔What do you value about Implenia as an employer? 👉I think we’ve always had fun projects. I’ve been here for more than 10 years, and that’s for a reason. We’ve had exciting projects where I’ve had the opportunity to learn and develop within the company. There have been different people who believed in me over the years, and that has meant a lot. ❔What advice would you give to others seeking a similar career? 👉Take it easy and stay calm. I’ve never felt stressed about advancing my career; I’ve just kept working. Try to find something you enjoy. If you have fun and find something you’re good at, I believe in taking it easy because then an opportunity will come. That’s been my approach – to stay calm. And of course, you should seize the opportunity when it comes, or you won’t move forward. TUNNEL BORING MACHINE "ELEKTRA" DID IT: A BREAKTHROUGH FOR A BRIGHTER STOCKHOLM ⚡ After a remarkable journey of over 10 km underground, the tunnel boring machine "Elektra" has broken through Stockholm’s bedrock as part of the City Link project beneath Stadsgårdskajen in central Stockholm. 👉Watch the video of this milestone achievement below. The City Link project - the Anneberg-Skanstull Tunnel - marks a significant step toward enhancing the Stockholm region’s power supply. In partnership with HOCHTIEF Infrastructure, Implenia is building this essential tunnel on behalf of Svenska kraftnät. The tunnel stretches 13.4 km, with a diameter of five meters, and is constructed 100 meters below Stockholm using state-of-the-art tunnel boring technology. This ambitious project is part of a historic expansion and modernization of the power grid, enabling Stockholm to continue growing as a dynamic hub for innovation, business, and job creation. HOW WE AVOID ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE The health and safety of employees has the highest priority at a construction site. However, environmental incidents are also of great importance: diesel or hydraulic oil can accidentally find its way into the ground or water, neighbouring traffic routes can be polluted or protected plants can be damaged. It is important to identify the causes of such incidents, learn from our mistakes and take corrective action for the future. Dangerous situations and near-miss accidents that could potentially have a negative impact on the environment also provide important insights for improvement. Implenia uses a central tool to systematically record and investigate incidents of various types. It provides a framework for structured and consistent reporting, description and follow-up of incidents. Recording corrective and preventive actions ensures that they are taken and followed up. In line with our sustainability goals, consistent reporting of environmental incidents will be embedded in all countries and business units by the end of 2025.
