Info
Established in 1863, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian help for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of war. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. It takes action in response to emergencies and promotes respect for international humanitarian law and its implementation in national law. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. 📍Sudan | Our mobile surgical team at the Atbara Teaching Hospital is seeing a surge in patients with conflict-related injuries—some traveling 10 days to reach care. We don’t know how many died along the way. Medical facilities and access to healthcare must be protected. Daniel O’Malley, ICRC head of delegation in Sudan, shares 👇🏽

📍 Israel and the occupied territories | Today we brought back the remains of those who should have been reunited with their loved ones in life, not in death. Our role today was to fulfill a vital humanitarian duty to allow families to mourn with dignity. They deserve to grieve and honour those they lost with a proper burial. These operations should be done privately out of the utmost respect for the deceased and for those left grieving. We have been unequivocal: every release — whether of the living or the deceased — must be conducted with dignity and privacy. The ICRC remains committed to the role entrusted to us under the ceasefire agreement.
