Info

Founded in 1904, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the umbrella organisation of its members, currently 211 national football associations. Its main objectives, enshrined in its statutes, are to develop football around the world, to stage international competitions and to protect the integrity of football (against match manipulation, doping etc.). FIFA is composed of a number of political bodies (such as the FIFA Congress and the FIFA Council) and the administration. The highest political position is the FIFA President, elected every four years by FIFA’s member associations. The FIFA administration, with more than 800 people from over 60 nations, is based in Zurich. It is run by the Secretary General (CEO). FIFA stages FIFA World Cups™ in various forms such as youth, men’s and women’s, futsal, beach soccer or club competitions. The men’s FIFA World Cup™ is not only the most popular single sporting event in the world but also the financial backbone for FIFA and its efforts to develop football worldwide. The financial success of the FIFA World Cup™ allows FIFA to run a wide range of football development programmes and to provide funds, infrastructure and know-how to its member associations through the FIFA Forward Development Programme. Bringing member associations together through the FIFA Digital Skills Programme 🤝 A delegation from the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol visited KNVB this week as part of a unique knowledge-sharing that they won through the FIFA Digital Skills Programme for being the most active participant. The representatives from Federación Mexicana de Fútbol were given a tour of the KNVB campus on Monday and Tuesday, before travelling to Amsterdam to attend presentations and a tour of the Johan Cruyff arena before concluding their visit with the Nations League match between Netherlands and Germany. This initiative, part of FIFA+, FIFA's streaming platform, was launched in 2022 to help football professionals enhance their digital skills and foster collaboration among key stakeholders. Head of FIFA Digital Skills Ekta Mangal Hutton said: “We are thrilled to see the FMF leading the way in utilizing FIFA Digital Skills, powered by FIFA+, to enhance their football operations, and their visit to the KNVB Campus highlights just how important education and knowledge exchange are to strengthening the global football community.   “By learning from one another, we continue to grow the game globally, united the world through football, and achieve all new heights - particularly as we head towards the FIFA World Cup 2026, the biggest edition in history.    I want to thank both Member Associations for their participation and energy, and a special thanks to the KNVB for their hospitality - their continued collaboration is critical to our ongoing successes."

Suspect and Protect: No Match is Worth the Risk. In line with the Strategic Objectives for the Global Game: 2023-2027 and following on from the announcement at the IFAB AGM in March 2024, FIFA has launched a global concussion awareness campaign in partnership with the World Health Organization. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the fact that concussion is a traumatic brain injury and is a risk to every player on the pitch. It has been endorsed by players, coaches and team doctors from around the world. Concussion toolkits are being distributed to FIFA’s 211 Member Associations for delivery at a national, regional and local level. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “Concussion is a brain injury and should always be taken seriously. Playing football should be something enjoyed safely, by everyone, everywhere. By knowing the signs of concussion, by being aware of the risks, and by treating a concussion correctly, you can help to put player safety first. “A big thank you to FIFA’s member associations for their efforts in launching with us and for following the advice provided by our colleagues at the World Health Organization.” Director of FIFA Medical Dr. Andy Massey added: “Improving understanding of the condition and supporting everyone involved in football to learn how to recognise signs and symptoms are vital – and the launch of #SuspectAndProtect is an important step towards achieving better concussion education and management throughout the world.”
