Today is the International Day of the Girl, which is why we are particularly happy about the decision of the EU Court of Justice. In a case from Austria, it determined that Afghan women and girls can now get asylum in the EU countries solely because of their gender. "It is a very important decision because it will ensure even more women and girls their fundamental rights, but also for the development of the right to asylum and for the understanding of women's risk of persecution in general." – Eva Singer, head of asylum at the Danish Refugee Council

Fatima lost nine members of her family in one airstrike, and countless more friends and relatives during her displacement in Nuseirat, Gaza. She is a vital member of Women’s Affairs Centre, a DRC partner in Gaza, and now live in displacement with her son. Everyday with the fear that she may also be killed. But her hope still remains: “What I hope for in the end is that the war ends, the fighting stops, and we return to our homes, rebuild, return to our studies, return to our work, and return to our normal lives. I hope that Gaza returns even stronger, with its homes, streets and people and life is even more beautiful.” Read her full story here: https://lnkd.in/dRkUmk4b

In the end of September, ASPIRE Field Assistants completed a 4-day refresher training to refine their use of anthropological methodology as part of the Aspiring for Peace and Inclusion Research (ASPIRE) project. 🔸 Field Assistants from Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement attended the training in Arua in Uganda, while Field Assistants from Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee Settlement attended the training online. 🔸 Cross-border learning is essential for ASPIRE as it improves the quality of our comparative data where we compare conflict management approaches in refugee contexts of Uganda and Kenya. ASPIRE (2023-2038) is refugee-led and implemented in partnership with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency 👉 Read more about ASPIRE here: https://lnkd.in/d2hj2fA9
