Low-energy β-delayed fission of At194,196 and Fr200,202 was studied in detail at the mass separator ISOLDE at CERN. The fission-fragment mass distributions of daughter nuclei Po194,196 and Rn202 indicate a triple-humped structure, marking the transition between asymmetric fission of Hg178,180 and symmetric fission in the light Ra-Rn nuclei. A nuclear-decay spectroscopy study of the neutron-deficient isotope At196 is reported where an isotopically pure beam was produced using the selective Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source and On-Line Isotope Mass Separator (CERN). The fine-structure α decay of At196 allowed the low-energy excited states in the daughter nucleus Bi192 to be investigated. [...]

α -decay branching ratio of $^{180}\mathrm{ Pt}$ / Cubiss, J G (York U., England) ; Harding, R D (CERN ; York U., England) ; Andreyev, A N ; Althubiti, N ; Andel, B ; Antalic, S (Comenius U.) ; Barzakh, A E (Kurchatov Inst., Moscow) ; Cocolios, T E (Leuven U. ; Manchester U.) ; Day Goodacre, T (Manchester U. ; CERN) ; Farooq-Smith, G J (Manchester U. ; Leuven U.) et al. /CMS
A study of the $^{180}\mathrm{Hg}$ decay chain performed at the CERN-ISOLDE facility has allowed the ground-state–to–ground-state α decay of $^{180}\mathrm{Pt}$ to be investigated. A more precise α-decay branching ratio of $b_{\alpha}$ $(^{180}\mathrm{Pt})=0.52(5)$% has been deduced. [...]

The first accurate measurements of the $\alpha$-decay branching ratio and half-life of the $I^{\pi}=1/2^+$ ground state in $^{181}$Tl have been made, along with the first determination of the magnetic moments and $I=1/2$ spin assignments of the ground states in $^{177,179}$Au. The results are discussed within the complementary systematics of the reduced $\alpha$-decay widths and nuclear $g$ factors of low-lying, $I^{\pi}=1/2^+$ states in the neutron-deficient lead region. A very exotic process of ${\beta}$-delayed fission of $^{180}$Tl is studied in detail by using resonant laser ionization with subsequent mass separation at ISOLDE (CERN). In contrast to common expectations, the fission-fragment mass distribution of the post-${\beta}$-decay daughter nucleus $^{180}$Hg (N/Z=1.25) is asymmetric. [...]

Background: Shape coexistence in heavy nuclei poses a strong challenge to state-of-the-art nuclear models, where several competing shape minima are found close to the ground state. A classic region for investigating this phenomenon is in the region around $Z=82$ and the neutron mid-shell at $N=104$. [...]
