Initial design of a proton complex for the Muon Collider / Johannesson, Sofia (ESS, Lund) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN) ; Gorzawski, Arkadiusz (ESS, Lund) ; Kelliher, David (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory) ; Laface, Emanuele (ESS, Lund) ; Vojskovic, Isabella (ESS, Lund) ; Milas, Natalia (ESS, Lund) ; Machida, Shinji (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory) ; Gilardoni, Simone (CERN)
The proton complex is the first piece in the Muon Collider, it comprises a high power acceleration section, a compressor and a target delivery system. For the International Muon Collider Collaboration we are investigating the possibility of having a full energy 5-GeV linac followed by an accumulator and a compressor ring and finally a target delivery system. Open XAL Status Report 2017 / Zhukov, Alexander (ORNL, Oak Ridge (main)) ; Allen, Christopher (ORNL, Oak Ridge (main)) ; Brown, Douglas (NMSU, Las Cruces) ; Chao, Yu-Chiu (SLAC) ; Chu, Chungming (Beijing, Inst. High Energy Phys.) ; Esteban Müller, Juan (ESS, Lund) ; Folsom, Benjamin (ESS, Lund) ; Gillette, P (GANIL) ; Laface, Emanuele (ESS, Lund) ; Laurent, P (GANIL) et al.
The Open XAL accelerator physics software platform is being developed through an international collaboration among several facilities since 2010 The goal of the collaboration is to establish Open XAL as a multi-purpose software platform supporting a broad range of tool and application development in accelerator physics (Open XAL also ships with a suite of general purpose accelerator applications). This paper discusses progress in beam dynamics simulation, interaction with control system and software organization. [...]

Development and Realisation of the ESS Machine Protection Concept / Nordt, Annika (ESS, Lund) ; Andersson, Riccard (ESS, Lund) ; Apollonio, Andrea (CERN) ; Hilbes, Christian (Unlisted, CH) ; Korhonen, Timo (ESS, Lund) ; Monera Martinez, Angel (ESS, Lund) ; Schmidt, Ruediger (CERN) ; Zaera-Sanz, Manuel (ESS, Lund)
ESS is facing extremely high beam availability requirements and is largely relying on custom made, very specialised, and expensive equipment for its operation. The proton beam power with an average of 5MW per pulse will be unprecedented and its uncontrolled release can lead to serious damage of the delicate equipment, causing long shutdown periods, inducing high financial losses and, as a main point, interfering drastically with international scientific research programs relying on ESS operation. Analysis with MECAmaster on the Chain of Design Tolerances for the Target Systems at the European Spallation Source - ESS / Bignami, Andrea (ESS, Lund) ; Gazis, Nikolaos (ESS, Lund) ; Ghatnekar Nilsson, Sara (ESS, Lund) ; Nicquevert, Bertrand (CERN)
The European Spallation Source - ESS, has achieved its major construction in Lund, Sweden and is currently continuing in parallel to commissioning its first systems. ESS is characterized by installing and commissioning the most powerful proton LINear ACcelerator (LINAC) designed for neutron production and a 5MW Target system for the production of pulsed neutrons from spallation. A Planning and Scheduling System for the ESS Accelerator Project / Lari, Luisella (ESS, Lund ; CERN) ; Bonnal, Pierre (CERN) ; Conlon, Matthew (ESS, Lund) ; Danared, Håkan (ESS, Lund) ; Gunnarsson, Lena (ESS, Lund) ; Jacobsson, Gunilla (ESS, Lund) ; Jakobsson, Mikael (ESS, Lund) ; Lindroos, Mats (ESS, Lund) ; Tanke, Eugene (ESS, Lund) ; Weisend, John (ESS, Lund)
Constructing a large, international research infrastructure is a complex task, especially when a large fraction of the equipment is delivered as in-kind contributions. A mature project management approach is essential to lead the planning and construction to deliver scientifically and technically. [...]

Search for Leptonic CP Violation with the ESSnuSBplus Project / ESSnuSB Collaboration
ESSνSB is a design study for a next-generation long-baseline neutrino experiment that aims at the precise measurement of the CP-violating phase, δCP, in the leptonic sector at the second oscillation maximum. The conceptual design report published from the first phase of the project showed that after 10 years of data taking, more than 70% of the possible δCP range will be covered with 5σ C.L. [...]
