Accelerators, Colliders and Their Application / Wilson, E (CERN) ; Holzer, B J (CERN)
Accelerators are modern, high precision tools with applications in a broad spectrum that ranges from material treatment, isotope production for nuclear physics and medicine, probe analysis in industry and research, to the production of high energy particle beams in physics and astronomy. At present about 35,000 accelerators exist world-wide, the majority of them being used for industrial and medical applications. [...]

Beam optics and lattice design for particle accelerators / Holzer, Bernhard J. (CERN)
The goal of this manuscript is to give an introduction into the design of the magnet lattice and as a consequence into the transverse dynamics of the particles in a synchrotron or storage ring. Starting from the basic principles of how to design the geometry of the ring we will briefly review the transverse motion of the particles and apply this knowledge to study the layout and optimization of the principal elements, namely the lattice cells. Optic corrections for FCC-hh / Boutin, David (IRFU, Saclay) ; Chancé, Antoine (IRFU, Saclay) ; Dalena, Barbara (IRFU, Saclay) ; Holzer, Bernhard (CERN) ; Schulte, Daniel (CERN)
The FCC-hh (Future Hadron-Hadron Circular Collider) is one of the options considered for the next generation accelerator in high-energy physics as recommended by the European Strategy Group. The evaluation of the various magnets mechanical error and field error tolerances in the arc sections of FCC-hh, as well as an estimation of the required correctors strengths, are important aspects of the collider design. Applications of Particle Accelerators / Sheehy, Suzie (Melbourne U.)
Of the tens of thousands of particle accelerators in operation worldwide, the vast majority are not used for particle physics, but instead for applications. [...]

Low-emittance Tuning for Circular Colliders / Charles, Tessa (Melbourne U.) ; Aumon, Sandra (CERN) ; Holzer, Bernhard (CERN) ; Oide, Katsunobu (CERN ; KEK, Tsukuba) ; Tydecks, Tobias (CERN) ; Zimmermann, Frank (CERN)
The 100 km FCC-ee e⁺/e⁻ circular collider requires luminosities in the order of 10³⁵ cm⁻² s⁻¹ and very low emittances of 0.27 nm·prad for the horizontal plane and 1 pm·prad in the vertical. In order to reach these requirements, extreme focusing of the beam is needed in the interaction regions, leading to a vertical beta function of 0.8 mm at the IP. [...]

Low emittance tuning of FCC-ee / Charles, Tessa (Melbourne U. ; CERN) ; Aumon, Sandra (ADAM, Geneva) ; Holzer, Bernhard (CERN) ; Oide, Katsunobu (KEK, Tsukuba ; CERN) ; Zimmermann, Frank (CERN)
The FCC-ee project studies the design of a future 100 km e+/e circular collider for precision studies and rare decay observations in the range of 90 to 350 GeV center of mass energy with luminosities in the order of 10$^{36}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$. In order to reach these luminosity requirements, strong focusing is needed in the interaction regions. [...]

How Radioactive Samples and Targets Can Help to Better Understand the Big Bang Theory / Schumann, Dorothea (PSI, Villigen) ; Barbagallo, Massimo (INFN, Bari) ; Stora, Thierry (CERN) ; Köster, Ulrich (Laue-Langevin Inst.) ; Gai, Moshe (Connecticut U.)
Over the past 20 years, we observed an increasing demand of precise and reliable experimental nuclear data in a number of scientific research fields like nuclear astrophysics, basic nuclear physics, nuclear medicine, geoscience, super heavy element research, and others. This demand induces also in an increasing number of requests for high-quality sample material in sufficient amounts and well-known isotopic composition, manufactured in a shape suitable for the specific envisaged application. The FCC-ee Interaction Region Magnet Design / Koratzinos, Michael (Geneva U.) ; Benedikt, Michael (CERN) ; Blondel, Alain (Geneva U.) ; Bogomyagkov, Anton (Novosibirsk, IYF) ; Holzer, Bernhard (CERN) ; Oide, Katsunobu (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Sinyatkin, Sergey (Novosibirsk, IYF) ; Zimmermann, Frank (CERN) ; van Nugteren, Jeroen (CERN)
The design of the region close to the interaction point of the FCC-ee experiments is especially challenging. The beams collide at an angle (+-15 mrad) in the high-field region of the detector solenoid. [...]
