Boosted decision trees in the CMS Level-1 endcap muon trigger / CMS Collaboration
The first implementation of Boosted Decision Trees (BDTs) inside a Level-1 trigger system at the LHC is presented. The Endcap Muon Track Finder (EMTF) at CMS uses BDTs to infer the momentum of muons in the forward region of the detector, based on 25 different variables. [...]

The Track-Finding Processor for the Level-1 Trigger of the CMS Endcap Muon System / Acosta, Darin ; Atamanchuk, A (St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, Russia) ; Golovtsov, Victor (St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, Russia) ; Madorsky, Alexander (University of Florida, Gainesville, USA) ; Razmyslovich, Boris (St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, Russia) ; Scurlock, Bobby (University of Florida, Gainesville, USA) ; Wang, Shaowen (University of Florida, Gainesville, USA)
We report on the development and test of a prototype track-finding processor for the level-1 trigger of the CMS endcap muon system. The processor links track segments identified in the cathode strip chambers of the endcap muon system into complete three-dimensional tracks, and measures the transverse momentum of the best track candidates from the sagitta induced by the magnetic bending. The CMS Modular Track Finder Boards, MTF6 and MTF7 / Acosta, Darin Edward (Florida U.) ; Brown, George Eric (Florida U.) ; Carnes, Andrew Mathew (Florida U.) ; Carver, Matthew Robert (Florida U.) ; Curry, David Alexander (Florida U.) ; Di Giovanni, Gian Piero (Florida U.) ; Furic, Ivan-Kresimir (Florida U.) ; Kropivnitskaya, Anna (Florida U.) ; Madorsky, Alexander (Florida U.) ; Matveev, Mikhail (Rice U.) et al.
To accommodate the increase in energy and luminosity of the upgraded LHC, the CMS Endcap Muon Level 1 Trigger system has to be significantly modified. To provide the best track reconstruction, the Trigger system must now import all available trigger primitives generated by Cathode Strip Chambers and by other regional subsystems, such as Resistive Plate Chambers. Software and Firmware co-development using High-level Synthesis / Pratap Ghanathe, Nikhil (Florida U.) /CMS Collaboration
Accelerating trigger applications on FPGAs (using VHDL/Verilog) at the CMS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider at CERN warrants consistency between each trigger firmware and its corresponding C++ model. This tedious and time consuming process of convergence is exacerbated during each upgrade study. [...]

Studies of the Global Muon Trigger Performance / Sakulin, Hannes (CERN) ; Fierro, Massimiliano (IHEP, Vienna, Austria)
The CMS L1 Global Muon Trigger combines the results of the three regional muon triggers to find the best four muon candidates in every bunch crossing. Its flexible hardware design consisting of Field Programmable Gate Arrays and memory-based Look-Up Tables allows the GMT algorithm to be adjusted for optimum performance according to the characteristics of the regional muon triggers. The CMS Level-1 muon triggers for the LHC Run II / Konecki, Marcin Andrzej (Warsaw U. (main)) /CMS Collaboration
The CMS experiment implements a sophisticated two-level triggering system composed of Level-1, instrumented by custom-design hardware boards, and a software High-Level Trigger. A new Level-1 trigger architecture with improved performance is now being used to maintain high physics efficiency for the more challenging luminosity conditions experienced during Run II. [...]

Layout and Assembly Technique of the GEM Chambers for the Upgrade of the CMS First Muon Endcap Station / Shah, Aashaq (Delhi U.) ; Andrey Marino ; Sharma, Archana (CERN) ; Kumar, Ashok (Delhi U.) ; Dorney, Brian L (Brussels U.) ; Merlin, Jeremie Alexandre (CERN) ; Luigi Bensusi ; Hohlmann, Marcus (Florida Inst. Tech.) ; Naimuddin, Md (Delhi U.) ; Tytgat, Michael (Gent U.) et al.
Triple-GEM detector technology was recently selected by CMS for a part of the upgrade of its forward muon detector system as GEM detectors provide a stable operation in the high radiation environment expected during the future High-Luminosity phase of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). In a first step, GEM chambers (detectors) will be installed in the innermost muon endcap station in the 1.6 $\textless$ \textbar $\eta$ \textbar $\textless$ 2.2 pseudo-rapidity region, mainly to control level-1 muon trigger rates after the second LHC Long Shutdown.
