DC-DC converters for the CMS MTD BTL and ECAL for HL-LHC
/ Gadek, T (Zurich, ETH) ; Dissertori, G (Zurich, ETH) ; Grossner, U (Zurich, ETH) ; Stachon, K (Zurich, ETH) ; Lustermann, W (Zurich, ETH)
/CMS Collaboration
The Minimum Ionizing Particle Timing Detector (MTD) will be introduced in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment to measure the production time of Minimum Ionizing Particles (MIPs). Power Conversion Cards (PCCs) regulates and supplies low voltage to front end electronics of the MTD barrel, the Barrel Timing Layer (BTL). [...]

ABSTRACT: Maintaining the required performance of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) barrel at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) requires the replacement of the entire on-detector electronics. 12240 new very front end (VFE) cards will amplify and digitize the signals of 62100 lead-tungstate crystals instrumented with avalanche photodiodes. Flexible custom designs for CMS DAQ
/ Arcidiacono, Roberta (INFN, Turin ; Piemonte Orientale U., Novara) ; Bauer, Gerry (MIT) ; Boyer, Vincent (CERN) ; Brett, Angela Mary (Fermilab) ; Cano, Eric (CERN) ; Carboni, Andrea (INFN, Pisa) ; Ciganek, Marek (CERN) ; Cittolin, Sergio (Zurich, ETH) ; Erhan, Samim (UCLA) ; Gigi, Dominique (CERN) et al.
The CMS central DAQ system is built using commercial hardware (PCs and networking equipment), except for two components: the Front-end Readout Link (FRL) and the Fast Merger Module (FMM). The FRL interfaces the sub-detector specific front-end electronics to the central DAQ system in a uniform way. [...]

This paper discusses the evolution of the Detector Control System (DCS) designed and implemented for the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as well as the operational experience acquired during the LHC physics data taking periods of 2010 and 2011. The current implementation in terms of functionality and planned hardware upgrades are presented. [...]

Maintaining and improving the control and safety systems for the Electromagnetic Calorimeter of the CMS experiment
/ Di Calafiori, Diogo Raphael (Zurich, ETH) ; Adzic, Petar (VINCA Inst. Nucl. Sci., Belgrade) ; Dissertori, Günther (Zurich, ETH) ; Holme, Oliver (Zurich, ETH) ; Jovanovic, Dragoslav (VINCA Inst. Nucl. Sci., Belgrade) ; Lustermann, Werner (Zurich, ETH) ; Zelepoukine, Serguei (Zurich, ETH)
This paper presents the current architecture of the control and safety systems designed and implemented for the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). An evaluation of system performance during all CMS physics data taking periods is reported, with emphasis on how software and hardware solutions are used to overcome limitations, whilst maintaining and improving reliability and robustness. The CMS ECAL Detector Control System
/ Leshev, Georgi (Zurich, ETH)
/CMS Collaboration
The challenging constraints on the design of the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment, such as rigorous temperature and voltage stability, imposed the development of a complex Detector Control System (DCS). In this paper the final layout and functionality of the CMS ECAL DCS are presented and the operational experience during the detector's commissioning and cosmic runs is discussed..
