Coil manufacturing process of the first 1-m-long Canted–Cosine–Theta (CCT) model magnet at PSI / Montenero, Giuseppe (PSI, Villigen) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN ; PSI, Villigen) ; Arbelaez, Diego (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Caspi, Shlomo (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Felder, Roland (PSI, Villigen) ; Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Sanfilippo, Stephane (PSI, Villigen) ; Sidorov, Serguei (PSI, Villigen) ; Smekens, David (CERN) et al.
At the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), the Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) magnet program aims at demonstrating that CCT technology is a viable candidate for the development of 16-T dipole magnets, required for future circular colliders. The first step in this direction is the implementation of a Nb$_3$Sn 1-m-long, two-layer CCT single-aperture dipole, referred to as Canted Dipole One (CD1), which is designed to achieve a peak field in the bore of ~11 T. Mechanical Structure for the PSI Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) Magnet Program / Montenero, Giuseppe (PSI, Villigen) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBL, Berkeley) ; Calzolaio, Ciro (PSI, Villigen) ; Caspi, Shlomo (LBL, Berkeley) ; Rolando, Gabriella (PSI, Villigen) ; Sanfilippo, Stephane (PSI, Villigen)
Abstract: The Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) technology has the potential, by its intrinsic stress-management, to lower coil stresses in high-field accelerator magnets. This is especially relevant for Nb3Sn magnets, which may be subject to irreversible degradation if the coil stresses exceed critical values. [...]

Test Results From CD1 Short CCT Nb-Sn Dipole Demonstrator and Considerations About CCT Technology for the FCC-Hh Main Dipole / Auchmann, B (PSI, Villigen ; CERN) ; Araujo, D M (PSI, Villigen) ; Brem, A (PSI, Villigen) ; Daly, M (PSI, Villigen) ; Felder, R (PSI, Villigen) ; Feuvrier, J (CERN) ; Hug, C (PSI, Villigen) ; Kirby, O (PSI, Villigen) ; Mangiarotti, F (CERN) ; Milanese, A (CERN) et al.
In this article, we attempt to summarize the 5-year long involvement of PSI through the CHART MagDev program with R&D; on the Canted Cosine Theta (CCT) technology as a candidate for an FCC-hh main dipole magnet. We present the test results of the Canted Dipole 1 (CD1) 1-m-long 10-T Nb$_{3}$Sn demonstrator magnet, as well as a subjective list of ‘pros and cons' of CCT for the FCC-hh that we compiled along the way. Modeling of Quench Protection Concepts for Canted-Cosine-Theta Type High-Field Magnets / Gao, Jiani (PSI, Villigen) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN ; PSI, Villigen) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Pautz, Andreas (PSI, Villigen ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Sanfilippo, Stephane (PSI, Villigen)
An innovative high-field superconducting magnet of Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) type has been proposed for Future Circular Collider 16 T dipole magnet design. The unique mechanical structure intercepts the accumulated forces lowering the stress on the windings, constituting intrinsic stress management in high-field Nb $_{3}$ Sn accelerator magnets. [...]

Electromechanical Design of a 16-T CCT Twin-Aperture Dipole for FCC / Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBL, Berkeley) ; Caspi, Shlomo (LBL, Berkeley) ; Gao, Jiani (PSI, Villigen) ; Montenero, Giuseppe (PSI, Villigen) ; Negrazus, Marco (PSI, Villigen) ; Rolando, Gabriella (CERN) ; Sanfilippo, Stéphane (PSI, Villigen)
Canted-cosine-theta (CCT) technology has been studied for its suitability for a future-circular-collider (FCC) main dipole in terms of magnetic and mechanical performance, electrothermal protectability, as well as efficiency. In this paper, we present lessons learnt from our search for efficient CCT solutions by means of two-dimensional (2-D) magnetic and mechanical simulations, discuss the 3-D periodic mechanical model, as well as 3-D electromagnetic analysis of the end regions. Subscale Stress-Managed Common Coil Design / Araujo, D M (PSI, Villigen) ; Auchmann, B (PSI, Villigen ; CERN) ; Brem, A (PSI, Villigen) ; Daly, M (PSI, Villigen) ; Michlmayr, T (PSI, Villigen) ; Müller, C (PSI, Villigen) ; Garcia-Rodrigues, H (PSI, Villigen) ; Sotnikov, D (PSI, Villigen) ; Milanese, A (CERN)
In the context of the High-Field Magnet (HFM) Programme, hosted at CERN, and the Swiss Accelerator Research and Technology (CHART) Initiative, hosted at PSI, the Magnet Development (MagDev) project aims to contribute to the Future Circular Collider (FCC) studies through, among others: (i) research on enabling technologies and (ii) high-field Low Temperature superconducting (LTS) and High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets. After a first experience with the CD1 magnet, a Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) Nb3Sn demonstrator, a roadmap has been established with milestones ranging from enabling technologies tested in powered samples and coils, to ultimate-field and hybrid LTS/HTS short magnets. Superconducting Curved Canted–Cosine–Theta (CCT) for the HIE-ISOLDE Recoil Separator Ring at CERN / Kirby, G (CERN) ; Rodin, V (Liverpool U.) ; Kirby, O (Exeter U.) ; Foussat, A (CERN) ; Resta-Lopez, J (Valencia U.) ; Martel, I (Huelva U.) ; Welsch, C (Liverpool U.)
The ISOLDE facility at CERN delivers the largest range of low-energy radioactive beams, exploited by several detector systems to investigate nuclear properties from the stable isotopes to the very exotic systems close to the neutron or proton drip lines. These studies can largely benefit from the use of a high-resolution fragment separator. [...]

Curved-Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCCT) Dipole Prototype Development at CERN / Haziot, Ariel (CERN) ; Kirby, Glyn (CERN) ; Dallocchio, Alessandro (CERN) ; Devred, Arnaud (CERN) ; Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Mangiarotti, Franco J (CERN) ; Pentella, Mariano (CERN) ; Petrone, Carlo (CERN) ; Pincot, Francois-Olivier (CERN) et al.
Due to its flexibility in generating advanced field harmonic corrections and potential for low cost compared to traditional designs, the Canted Cosine Theta (CCT) configuration is particularly interesting for compact particle accelerators and gantries for medical applications. This article presents the design of a curved demonstrator named Fusillo, a Canted Cosine Theta Nb-Ti dipole magnet that is being developed at CERN, featuring a large aperture of 236 mm, a small bending radius of 1 m, a bending angle of 90$^{\circ }$, and multi-harmonic field correction, with a 3.61 T conductor peak field.
