From quantum foam to graviton condensation: the Zel'dovich route / Garcia Tello, Pablo (CERN) ; Succi, Sauro (IAC, Rome ; Italian Inst. Tech., Genoa ; Harvard U., Phys. Dept.) ; Bini, Donato (IAC, Rome ; INFN, Rome3) ; Kauffman, Stuart (Inst. Systems Biology, Seattle)
Based on a previous ansatz by Zel'dovich for the gravitational energy of virtual particle-antiparticle pairs, supplemented with the Holographic Principle, we estimate the vacuum energy in a fairly reasonable agreement with the experimental values of the Cosmological Constant. We further highlight a connection between Wheeler's quantum foam and graviton condensation, as contemplated in the quantum $N$-portrait paradigm, and show that such connection also leads to a satisfactory prediction of the value of the cosmological constant. Estimating today’s cosmological constant via the Zel’dovich-holographic connection / Garcia Tello, Pablo (CERN) ; Succi, Sauro (Harvard University) ; Bini, Donato (INFN) ; Kauffman, Stuart (Institute for Systems Biology, Seattle, WA 98109, USA)
This Letter proposes a solution of the Vacuum Energy and the Cosmological Constant (CC) paradox based on the Zel’dovich’s ansatz, which states that the observable contribution to the vacuum energy density, is given by the gravitational energy of virtual particle-antiparticle pairs, continually generated and annihilated in the vacuum state. Failures of homogeneous and isotropic cosmologies in Extended Quasi-Dilaton Massive Gravity / Anselmi, Stefano (LUTH, Meudon ; Paris, Inst. Astrophys. ; Case Western Reserve U., CERCA) ; Kumar, Saurabh (Case Western Reserve U., CERCA) ; López Nacir, Diana (CERN) ; Starkman, Glenn D. (Case Western Reserve U., CERCA)
We analyze the Extended Quasi-Dilaton Massive Gravity model around a Friedmann-Lema\^itre-Robertson-Walker cosmological background. We present a careful stability analysis of asymptotic fixed points. [...]

Recently two of the authors proposed a mechanism of vacuum energy sequester as a means of protecting the observable cosmological constant from quantum radiative corrections. The original proposal was based on using global Lagrange multipliers, but later a local formulation was provided. [...]

Higher order perturbations of Anti-de Sitter space and time-periodic solutions of vacuum Einstein equations / Rostworowski, Andrzej (Jagiellonian U. ; CERN)
Motivated by the problem of stability of Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime, we discuss nonlinear gravitational perturbations of maximally symmetric solutions of vacuum Einstein equations in general and the case of AdS in particular. We present the evidence that, similarly to the self-gravitating scalar field at spherical symmetry, the negative cosmological constant allows for the existence of globally regular, asymptotically AdS, time-periodic solutions of vacuum Einstein equations whose frequencies bifurcate from linear eigenfrequencies of AdS. Exponential suppression of the cosmological constant in nonsupersymmetric string vacua at two loops and beyond / Abel, Steven (Durham U., IPPP ; Durham U., Dept. of Math.) ; Stewart, Richard J. (CERN)
Two independent criteria are presented that together guarantee exponential suppression of the two-loop cosmological constant in non-supersymmetric heterotic strings. They are derived by performing calculations in both the full string theory and in its underlying effective field theory, and come respectively from contributions that involve only physical untwisted states, and contributions that include orbifold twisted states.
