Distributed fibre optic sensing and novel data processing method for tunnel circumferential deformation – A case study of an ageing tunnel at CERN / Xiao, Zhipeng (University Coll., Cork) ; Di Murro, Vanessa (CERN) ; Osborne, John Andrew (CERN) ; Zhu, Honghu (Nanjing Normal U.) ; Li, Zili (University Coll., Cork)
The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is one of the largest nuclear research centres in the world, operating the most powerful particle accelerator housed in a massive 80 km-long underground tunnel network. Over the decades, regular site inspection has observed the ongoing development of structural defects, such as widened cracks, water infiltration and misalignment of the particle accelerator beamline caused by differential tunnel floor settlements. Status and Perspectives of High Field Magnets for Particle Accelerators / Todesco, Ezio (CERN)
Superconducting magnets have been an enabling technology for particle accelerators for more than 40 years. An introduction on the specific challenges of high field accelerator dipoles with respect to other devices, such as solenoids or detector magnets, will be provided followed by a brief historical overview of the development of Nb-Ti magnets for particle colliders, up to the 8 T dipole fields achieved in the LHC at 1.9 K. Laser-Induced Quench Study of the Magneto-Thermal Stability of Nb$_3$Sn Wires / Kuczynska, J H (CERN ; Geneva U.) ; Hopkins, S C (CERN) ; Senatore, C (Geneva U.) ; Boutboul, T (CERN)
In the pursuit of developing 14+ T Nb$_3$Sn magnets for a future energy-frontier circular collider, there is a growing demand for wires with enhanced critical current density (Jc), larger diameters, and lower copper-to-non-copper ratios. These requirements pose significant challenges to maintaining magnetothermal stability of the superconducting wires. [...]

Shielded Pair Method for Beam Screen Surface Resistance Measurement at Cryogenic Temperature / Brunner, Kristóf (CERN ; Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Krkotić, Patrick (CERN) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Barna, Dániel (Wigner RCP, Budapest)
The shielded pair resonator method is a useful tool in the measurement of accelerator components, such as the beam screens used in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the High-Luminosity (HL) LHC, or future accelerators. It can measure the resistive losses at several frequency points by separating the resistive losses on the sample from other sources of losses. [...]

A Radiation-Tolerant 25.6-Gb/s High-Speed Transmitter in 28-nm CMOS With a Tolerance of 1 Grad / Klekotko, A (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Biereigel, S (CERN) ; Baszczyk, M (CERN) ; Moreira, P (CERN) ; Martina, F (CERN) ; Prinzie, J (Leuven U.) ; Kulis, S (Leuven U.)
This article presents a 25.6-Gbit $\cdot $ s−1 high-speed transmitter (HST) manufactured using 28-nm CMOS technology. The HST macroblock includes an all-digital phase-locked loop (ADPLL), duty cycle corrector (DCC) circuit, data pattern generator, serializer, and a driver capable of driving the differential 100- $\Omega $ line as well as a silicon photonics (SiPh) ring modulator (RM). Comparison of High Energy X-Ray and Cobalt-60 Irradiations on MOS Capacitors / Girones, Vincent (Montpellier U.) ; Boch, Jérôme (Montpellier U.) ; Saigné, Frédéric (Montpellier U.) ; Carapelle, Alain (CERN) ; Chapon, Arnaud ; Maraine, Tadec (Montpellier U.) ; Alía, Rubén García (CERN)
The use of a high energy X-ray generator for Total Ionizing Dose (TID) testing is studied on metal-oxide semiconductor (MOS) capacitors. Several conditions were studied for the high energy X-ray irradiations (with aluminum and lead filters) and the experimental results are compared to Cobalt 60 (Co-60) irradiations. [...]

•Cleaning of 365 nm LIPSS from debris of with microemulsions has been demonstrated.•Excellent debris and particles removal while maintaining the LIPSS pattern were found.•The cleaning mechanism is dominated of selective dissolution of nanomaterial and oxides. Laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) attract considerable attention due to the manifold applications enabled by these self-organised structures ranging from optical colouring to bio-mimicking or wetting effects. Waveguide-Integrated Germanium-on-Silicon (Ge-on-Si) photodiodes are integral components in silicon photonics and understanding their radiation tolerance is important for applications that intend to use silicon photonics in harsh radiation environments. Here we report the results of high fluence particle irradiation tests on Ge-on-Si photodiodes. [...]
