Proof-of-Principle of an Energy-Efficient, Iron-Dominated Electromagnet for Physics Experiments / Devred, A (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Bourcey, N (CERN) ; Mangiarotti, F (CERN) ; Milanese, A (CERN) ; Petrone, C (CERN)
A number of physics experiments call for the use of iron-dominated, normal-conducting electromagnets to produce moderate fields (2 T range) in a large gap or over a large volume. Although robust and reliable, these magnets require significant electrical power, in the MW range, and can thus be costly to operate, especially in DC mode. [...]

Hot spot visual evaluation of breakdown locations in ATLAS18 ITk strip sensors and test structures / ATLAS Collaboration
An important characteristic of silicon-based particle detectors, such as those used for the forthcoming ATLAS ITk upgrade for the HL-LHC, is the leakage current. [...]

Advancements in TOF-PET using DOI Capable Modules and Low-Noise High-Frequency Readout / Terragni, G (CERN ; Vienna U.) ; Kratochwil, N (CERN) ; Lowis, C (CERN ; RWTH Aachen U.) ; Pagano, F (CERN ; INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Cates, J W (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Pizzichemi, M (CERN ; INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Marton, J (Vienna U.) ; Auffray Hillemanns, E (CERN)
Achieving good time resolution has become a prerequisite in positron emission tomography (PET) to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and thus the quality of the reconstructed image. A particularly attractive solution for the electronic readout is using low-noise high-frequency circuits (HF), which have demonstrated excellent timing performance in time-of-flight (TOF)-PET applications. ALICE ITS3: Technology Qualification Results on Prototype Sensor Structures of Novel Bent Wafer Scale 65nm CMOS Sensors / Hillemanns, H (CERN)
The ALICE collaboration is currently developing a new vertex detector ("ITS3"), which is planned to be installed in 2026 - 2028 during LHC long shutdown 3 to replace the three innermost layers (Inner Barrel) of the current Inner Tracking System as from Run 4 onwards. ITS3 is based on a truly innovative concept, comprising the use of ultra-thin (50 micrometers) silicon wafers and stitching technologies in 65nm CMOS imaging process to produce large area (10cm x 26cm) Monolithic Active Pixels Sensors sensors which can be bent to half-cylindrical shapes of 18, 24 and 30 mm bending radii for layer 0, 1 and 2 respectively. Lessons Learned from the SkinScan Project / Pia, M G (INFN, Genoa) ; Boccacci, P (U. Genoa) ; Chauvie, S ; Chessa, M (U. Genoa) ; D'Agostino, D (U. Genoa) ; Grillo Ruggieri, F ; Tcherniaev, E (CERN) /SkinScan Collaboration
The SkinScan project develops computational tools for a challenging radiotherapy technique -total skin irradiation with electrons for the treatment of cutaneous lymphomas. It addresses a complex problem domain, which still rests on a radiation therapy methodology developed in the 80's of the past century, by means of an innovative computational approach that involves a multidisciplinary team of physicists, medical experts, computer scientists and bioengineers. Toward a second generation of Metascintillators using the Purcell effect / Lecoq, P (CERN) ; Kaminer, I (Technion) ; Schultzman, A (Technion) ; Schütz, R (Technion) ; Kurman, Y (Technion) ; Lahav, N (Technion) ; Dosovitskiy, G (Technion) ; Bekenstein, Y (Technion) ; Konstantinou, G ; Latella, R et al.
We are developing a new scintillation concept, which will become part of the second generation of metascintillators. The first generation approached 100 ps equivalent coincidence time resolution (CTR) in a PET scanner configuration with LYSO/plastic and LYSO/BaF2designs, and reached 200 ps with much cheaper BGO/plastic and BGO/BaF2heterostructures. Enhancing Timing Performance of Heterostructures with Double-Sided Readout / Pagano, F (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Cates, J W (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Choong, W S (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Paganoni, M (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Pizzichemi, M (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Kratochwil, N (CERN) ; Hillemanns, E Auffray (CERN)
Heterostructured scintillators are gaining ground as a possible solution to the trade-off between the high sensitivity and fast timing of detectors for time-of-flight positron emission tomography (TOF-PET). They consist of stacks of alternating layers of two materials with complementary properties: high stopping power and ultrafast timing. [...]
