Estimation of the thermal radiation induced desorption yield for hydrogen and helium at liquid helium temperatures / Jenninger, Berthold (CERN) ; Bez, Elena (CERN) ; Stöltzel, Anke (CERN) ; Rooijakkers, Fleur (CERN) ; Tiirinen, Eino (CERN)
Infrared radiation induced desorption of adsorbed molecules from cryogenic surfaces can lead to potentially detrimental pressure limitation in cryogenic UHV/XHV systems. For a sub-monolayer coverage, we determined the corresponding yields for hydrogen and helium exposed to room temperature radiation to be in the order of 1·10−4 and 0.02 m2(W·s)−1 respectively. [...]

Investigating the effect of rolling deformation on the electro-mechanical limits of Nb33Sn wires produced by RRP® and PIT technologies / Bagni, T (U. Geneva (main) ; Uppsala U.) ; Calzolaio, C (PSI, Villigen) ; Bovone, G (U. Geneva (main)) ; Ferradas-Troitino, J (CERN) ; Barth, C (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Senatore, C (U. Geneva (main))
Future high-field magnets for particle accelerators hinge on the crucial development of advanced Nb3Sn wires engineered to withstand the large stresses generated during magnet assembly and operation. The superconducting properties of Nb3Sn enable the design of compact accelerator-quality magnets above 10 T, but at the same time the brittleness and strain sensitivity of the material impose careful consideration of the mechanical limits. Interpretable Anomaly Detection in the LHC Main Dipole Circuits With Nonnegative Matrix Factorization / Obermair, Christoph (CERN ; Graz, Tech. CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC), with its eight superconducting main dipole circuits, has been in operation for over a decade. During this time, relevant operational parameters of the circuits, including circuit current, voltages across magnets and their coils, and current to ground, have been recorded. [...]

Enhancing Timing Performance of Heterostructures with Double-Sided Readout / Pagano, F (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Cates, J W (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Choong, W S (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Paganoni, M (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Pizzichemi, M (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Kratochwil, N (CERN) ; Hillemanns, E Auffray (CERN)
Heterostructured scintillators are gaining ground as a possible solution to the trade-off between the high sensitivity and fast timing of detectors for time-of-flight positron emission tomography (TOF-PET). They consist of stacks of alternating layers of two materials with complementary properties: high stopping power and ultrafast timing. [...]

Degradation of I c due to residual stress in high-performance Nb3Sn wires submitted to compressive transverse force / Senatore, C (U. Geneva (main) ; Geneva U.) ; Bagni, T (U. Geneva (main)) ; Ferradas-Troitino, J (U. Geneva (main) ; CERN) ; Bordini, B (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN)
Future particle colliders in search for new physics at the energy frontier require the development of accelerator magnets capable of producing fields well beyond those attainable with Nb-Ti. As the next generation of high-field accelerator magnets is presently planned to be based on Nb3Sn, it becomes crucial to establish precisely the mechanical limits at which this brittle and strain sensitive superconductor can operate safely. Search for the rare decays W+D+sγ and ZD0γ at LHCb / LHCb Collaboration
A search for the rare decays W+D+sγ and ZD0γ is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb1. No significant signal is observed for either decay mode and upper limits on their branching fractions are set using W+μ+ν and Zμ+μ decays as normalization channels. [...]

Search for Higgs boson Decays to Beyond-the-Standard-Model Light Bosons in Four-Lepton Final States with the ATLAS Detector at the LHC / Soumaimi, Zainab (Rabat U.) ; Boye, Diallo (Johannesburg U.) ; Fassi, Farida (Rabat U.) ; Assamagan, Ketevi (Brookhaven) ; Connell, Simon (Johannesburg U.) ; Weber, Christian (Brookhaven)
Hidden sector or dark sector states appear in many extensions to the Standard Model (SM), to provide particle mediators for dark matter in the universe. A new probe of this hypothetical hidden or dark sector may have become available at the energy frontier opened up by the LHC with the Higgs boson and its distinct couplings to SM particles. [...]
