A Brief Introduction to Beam Position Monitors for Charged Particle Accelerators / Wendt, Manfred (CERN)
While charged particle accelerators have their origin in the research related to fundamental and high-energy physics, they expanded their applications to many other fields of applied research in physics, material science, biology, chemistry, and medical science, including the treatment of patients, to name some. However, in all types of accelerators assembles of charged particles, e.g., electrons, protons, ions, sometimes their antimatter partners positrons or p-bars (anti-protons) are accelerated to a desired energy, typically in an evacuated, metallic tube, called beam pipe. Study of charged-particle multiplicities with ALICE / Zaccolo, Valentina (INFN, Trieste ; Trieste U.) /ALICE Collaboration
The multiplicity measurements include the pseudorapidity density, $\rm{d}N_{\rm ch}/\rm{d}{\eta}$, and the probability distribution as a function of the number of charged particles, $\rm{P}(N_{\rm ch})$. ALICE has measured the multiplicities for three collision systems, for proton-proton, proton-lead and lead-lead collisions at Run 1 and 2 at the Large Hadron Collider. [...]

An overview of experimental results from ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at the CERN LHC: Bulk properties and dynamical evolution / Foka, Panagiota (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Janik, Małgorzata Anna (Warsaw U. of Tech.)
The first collisions of lead nuclei, delivered by the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the end of 2010, at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV, marked the beginning of a new era in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion physics. Following the Run 1 period, LHC also successfully delivered PbPb collisions at the collision energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV at the end of 2015. [...]

Neutral meson production and correlation with charged hadrons in pp and Pb-Pb collisions with the ALICE experiment at the LHC / Vauthier, Astrid (LPSC, Grenoble) /ALICE Collaboration
Among the probes used to investigate the properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma, the measurement of the energy loss of high-energy partons can be used to put constraints on energy-loss models and to ultimately access medium characteristics, such as the energy density or the temperature. The study of two-particle correlations allows us to obtain very different constraints compared to the nuclear modification factor. [...]

Femtoscopy with identified charged pions in proton-lead collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV with ATLAS / ATLAS Collaboration
Bose-Einstein correlations between identified charged pions are measured for $p$+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of $28~\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$. Pions are identified using ionization energy loss measured in the pixel detector. [...]

Multiplicity Dependence of Non-extensive Parameters for Strange and Multi-Strange Particles in Proton-Proton Collisions at $\sqrt{s}= 7$ TeV at the LHC / Khuntia, Arvind (Indian Inst. Tech., Indore) ; Tripathy, Sushanta (Indian Inst. Tech., Indore) ; Sahoo, Raghunath (Indian Inst. Tech., Indore) ; Cleymans, Jean (UCT-CERN Res. Ctr. ; Cape Town U.)
The transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) spectra in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV, measured by the ALICE experiment at the LHC are analyzed with a thermodynamically consistent Tsallis distribution. The information about the freeze-out surface in terms of freeze-out volume, temperature and the non-extenisivity parameter, $q$, for $K^{0}_{S}$, $\Lambda+\bar{\Lambda}$, $\Xi^{-}+\bar{\Xi}^{+}$ and $\Omega^{-}+\bar{\Omega}^{+}$ are extracted by fitting the $p_{\rm T}$ spectra with Tsallis distribution function. J/$\psi$ production as a function of charged-particle pseudorapidity density in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV / ALICE Collaboration
We report measurements of the inclusive J/$\psi$ yield and average transverse momentum as a function of charged-particle pseudorapidity density ${\rm d}N_{\rm ch}/{\rm d}\eta$ in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}= 5.02$ TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The observables are normalised to their corresponding averages in non-single diffractive events. [...]

Production of $\Sigma(1385)^{\pm}$ and $\Xi(1530)^{0}$ in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV / ALICE Collaboration
The transverse momentum distributions of the strange and double-strange hyperon resonances ($\Sigma(1385)^{\pm}$, $\Xi(1530)^{0}$) produced in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV were measured in the rapidity range $-0.5< y_{\rm{CMS}}<0$ for event classes corresponding to different charged-particle multiplicity densities, $\langle{\rm d}N_{\rm{ch}}/{\rm d}\eta_{\rm{lab}}\rangle$. The mean transverse momentum values are presented as a function of $\langle{\rm d}N_{\rm{ch}}/{\rm d}\eta_{\rm{lab}}\rangle$, as well as a function of the particle masses and compared with previous results on hyperon production. Centrality dependence of the pseudorapidity density distribution for charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV / ALICE Collaboration
We present the charged-particle pseudorapidity density in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02\,\mathrm{Te\kern-.25exV}$ in centrality classes measured by ALICE. The measurement covers a wide pseudorapidity range from $-3.5$ to $5$, which is sufficient for reliable estimates of the total number of charged particles produced in the collisions. [...]

Charged–particle multiplicities in proton–proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 0.9 to 8 TeV, with ALICE at the LHC / ALICE Collaboration
The ALICE Collaboration has carried out a detailed study of pseudorapidity densities and multiplicity distributions of primary charged particles produced in proton-proton collisions, at $\sqrt{s} =$ 0.9, 2.36, 2.76, 7 and 8 TeV, in the pseudorapidity range $|\eta| < 2$. Measurements were obtained for three event classes: inelastic, non-single diffractive and events with at least one charged particle in the pseudorapidity interval $|\eta| < 1$. [...]
