Mitigation Strategies for the Instabilities Induced by the Fundamental Mode of the HL-LHC Crab Cavities
/ Giacomel, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, Philippe (CERN) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Mounet, Nicolas (CERN)
The transverse impedance is one of the potentially limiting effects for the performance of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). In the current LHC, the impedance is dominated by the resistive-wall contribution of the collimators at typical bunch-spectrum frequencies, and is of broad-band nature. [...]

Simulations of incoherent effects driven by electron clouds forming in the inner triplets of the Large Hadron Collider
/ Paraschou, Konstantinos (CERN) ; Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Mether, Lotta (CERN)
During Run 2 and Run 3 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), slow losses from electron cloud (e-cloud) effects have been systematically observed during the full duration of fills with closely-spaced proton bunches. In particular, these effects had been found to depend strongly on the crossing angle of the two beams and the value of the betatron functions in the interaction points. [...]

Impact of second-order chromaticity on the Schottky spectra of bunched beam
/ Lasocha, Kacper (CERN) ; Alves, Diogo (CERN) ; Lannoy, Christophe (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Mounet, Nicolas (CERN)
Observation of Schottky signals provides information on important beam and machine parameters, such as transverse emittance, betatron tune, and first-order chromaticity. However, the so-far developed theory of Schottky spectra does not include the impact of the higher-order chromaticity, known to be non-negligible in the case of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). [...]

Benchmarking power deposition from fast losses of heavy-ion beams at the onset of LHC Run 3
/ Rodin, Volodymyr (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Salvachua, Belen (CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Esposito, Luigi Salvatore (CERN) ; D'Andrea, Marco (CERN) ; Schoofs, Philippe (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Cai, Rongrong (CERN) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN) et al.
In 2023, the LHC started its Run 3 operation with 208PB82+ beams at 6.8 ZTeV, with a substantially higher number of bunches compared to past runs. Several new hardware systems were used operationally for the first time with high-intensity beams, including bent crystal collimators in the betatron cleaning insertion. [...]

Optimizations and updates of the FCC-ee collimation system design

The Future Circular electron-positron Collider, FCC-ee, is a design study for a 90 km circumference luminosity-frontier and highest-energy e+e- collider. It foresees four operation modes optimized for producing different particles by colliding high-brightness lepton beams. [...]

Collimator Scan Based Beam Halo Measurements in LHC and HL-LHC
/ Hermes, Pascal (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Montanari, Carlo Emilio (CERN ; U. Manchester (main)) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Rakic, Milica (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Salvachúa, Belen (CERN)
Measurements in the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have indicated that the population of the transverse beam halo is greater than that of a Gaussian distribution. With the upcoming High Luminosity upgrade (HL-LHC), the stored beam energy in the beam halo could become large enough to threaten the integrity of the collimation system. [...]

Probing Transverse Impedances in the High Frequency Range at the CERN SPS
/ de la Fuente, Elena (CERN ; Tech. U. Madrid (main)) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Mases Solé, Ingrid (CERN ; Goethe U., Frankfurt (main)) ; Rumolo, Giovanni (CERN) ; Zannini, Carlo (CERN)
The SPS transverse impedance model, which includes the major impedance contributions in the machine, can be benchmarked through measurements of the Head-Tail mode zero instability. Since the SPS works above transition energy, the head tail mode zero is unstable for negative values of chromaticity. [...]

A Linearized Vlasov Method for the Study of Transverse e-Cloud Instabilities
/ Johannesson, Sofia (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Seidel, Mike (PSI, Villigen ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
Using a Vlasov approach, electron cloud driven instabilities can be modeled to study beam stability on time scales that conventional Particle In Cell simulation methods cannot access. The Vlasov approach uses a linear description of electron cloud forces that accounts for both the betatron tune modulation along the bunch and the dipolar kicks from the electron cloud. [...]

Statistical Properties of Schottky Spectra
/ Lannoy, Christophe (CERN ; EPFL, Lausanne, FSL) ; Alves, Diogo (CERN) ; Łasocha, Kacper (CERN) ; Mounet, Nicolas (CERN) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (EPFL, Lausanne, FSL)
Schottky signals are used for non-invasive beam diagnostics as they contain information on various beam and machine parameters. The instantaneous Schottky signal is, however, only a single realisation of a random process, implicitly depending on the discrete distribution of synchrotron and betatron amplitudes and phases among the particles. [...]
