/ Akiba, Kazu (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; van Beuzekom, Martin (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; van Beveren, Vincent (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; Byczynski, Wiktor (CERN ; Cracow Tech. U.) ; Coco, Victor (CERN) ; Collins, Paula (CERN) ; Dall'Occo, Elena (Dortmund U.) ; Dumps, Raphael (CERN) ; Evans, Tim (Manchester U.) ; Geertsema, Robbert (Nikhef, Amsterdam) et al.
The design of a detector system comprised of four silicon sensors bump-bonded to Timepix4 ASICs is described together with its data acquisition system, operational infrastructure, and dedicated software. The spatial and temporal performance of the system are assessed with a 180 GeV/c mixed hadron beam at the CERN SPS and reported in detail. [...]

Growing energies of particles at modern or planned particle accelerator experiments as well as cosmic ray experiments require particle identification at gamma-factors (γ) of up to ∼ 105 . At present there are no detectors capable of identifying charged particles with reliable efficiency in this range of γ . [...]

X-ray transition radiation detectors (TRDs) are used for particle identification in both high energy physics and astroparticle physics. In most of the detectors, emission of the X-ray transition radiation (TR) starts at Lorentz factors above γ∼500 and reaches saturation at γ∼2÷3⋅103 . [...]

We plan to develop an advanced Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) for hadron identification in the TeV momentum range, based on the simultaneous measurement of the energies and of the emission angles of the Transition Radiation (TR) X-rays with respect to the radiating particles. To study the feasibility of this project, we have carried out a beam test campaign at the CERN SPS facility with 20 GeV/c electrons and muons up to 300 GeV/c. [...]

X-ray Transition radiation detectors (TRDs) are used for particle identification in both high energy physics and astroparticle physics. Particle identification is often achieved based on a threshold effect of the X-ray transition radiation (TR). [...]

This work is dedicated to the study of a technique for hadron identification in the TeV momentum range, based on the simultaneous measurement of the energies and of the emission angles of the Transition Radiation (TR) X-rays with respect to the radiating particles. A detector setup has been built and tested with particles in a wide range of Lorentz factors (from about 103 to about 4×104 crossing different types of radiators. [...]

SPIDR, a general-purpose readout system for pixel ASICs

The SPIDR (Speedy PIxel Detector Readout) system is a flexible general-purpose readout platform that can be easily adapted to test and characterize new and existing detector readout ASICs. It is originally designed for the readout of pixel ASICs from the Medipix/Timepix family, but other types of ASICs or front-end circuits can be read out as well. [...]

The performance of prototype active-edge VTT sensors bump-bonded to the Timepix ASIC is presented. Non-irradiated sensors of thicknesses 100–200 μm and pixel-to-edge distances of 50 μm and 100 μm were probed with a beam of charged hadrons with sub-pixel precision using the Timepix telescope assembled at the SPS at CERN.
