A Custom Online Ultrasonic Gas Mixture Analyzer With Simultaneous Flowmetry, Developed for the Upgraded Evaporative Cooling System of the ATLAS Silicon Tracker
/ Bates, R (Glasgow U.) ; Battistin, M ; Berry, S ; Berthoud, J ; Bitadze, A ; Bonneau, P ; Botelho-Direito, J ; Bousson, N ; Boyd, G ; Bozza, G et al.
We describe a combined ultrasonic instrument for continuous gas flow measurement and simultaneous real-time binary gas mixture analysis. In the instrument, sound bursts are transmitted in opposite directions, which may be aligned with the gas flow path or at an angle to it, the latter configuration being the best adapted to high flow rates. Implementation of Ultrasonic Sensing for High Resolution Measurement of Binary Gas Mixture Fractions
/ Bates, Richard (Glasgow U.) ; Battistin, Michele (CERN) ; Berry, Stephane (CERN) ; Bitadze, Alexander (Glasgow U.) ; Bonneau, Pierre (CERN) ; Bousson, Nicolas (Marseille, CPPM) ; Boyd, George (Oklahoma U.) ; Bozza, Gennaro (CERN) ; Crespo-Lopez, Olivier (CERN) ; Da Riva, Enrico (CERN) et al.
We describe an ultrasonic instrument for continuous real-time analysis of the fractional mixture of a binary gas system. The instrument is particularly well suited to measurement of leaks of a high molecular weight gas into a system that is nominally composed of a single gas. [...]

The TOTEM experiment is dedicated to the measurement of the total proton-proton cross-section with the luminosity-independent method and the study of elastic and diffractive scattering processes. Two tracking telescopes, T1 and T2, integrated in the CMS detector, cover the pseudo-rapidity region between 3.1 and 6.5 on both sides of the interaction point IP5. [...]

Performance of the Totem Detectors at the LHC
/ TOTEM Collaboration
The TOTEM Experiment is designed to measure the total proton-proton cross-section with the luminosity-independent method and to study elastic and diffractive pp scattering at the LHC. To achieve optimum forward coverage for charged particles emitted by the pp collisions in the interaction point IP5, two tracking telescopes, T1 and T2, are installed on each side of the IP in the pseudorapidity region 3.1 $\le |\eta| \le $6.5, and special movable beam-pipe insertions – called Roman Pots (RP) – are placed at distances of ±147m and ±220m from IP5. Double diffractive cross-section measurement in the forward region at LHC
/ TOTEM Collaboration
The first double diffractive cross-section measurement in the very forward region has been carriedout by the TOTEM experiment at the LHC with center-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV. By utilizingthe very forward TOTEM tracking detectors T1 and T2, which extend up to pseudo rapidity |$\eta$|=6.5, a clean sample of double diffractive pp events was extracted. [...]

Luminosity-independent measurements of total, elastic and inelastic cross-sections at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV

The TOTEM experiment at the LHC has performed the first luminosity-independent determination of the total proton-proton cross-section at $\sqrt {s} = 7\,{\mathrm { TeV}}$ . This technique is based on the optical theorem and requires simultaneous measurements of the inelastic rate – accomplished with the forward charged-particle telescopes T1 and T2 in the range 3.1 < |η| < 6.5 – and of the elastic rate by detecting the outcoming protons with Roman Pot detectors.
