Preparations for a search of the muon EDM at PSI

Electric dipole moments (EDMs) of fundamental particles violate time invariance and the combined symmetry of charge and parity (CP). The existence of a large muon EDM (muEDM) is made plausible by tensions with Standard Model predictions for semileptonic decays of heavy meson measured at LHCb, BaBar, and Belle, as well as the muon’s anomalous magnetic moment (AMM). We report on the fabrication, assembly, and test of the ${\rm Nb}_{3}{\rm Sn}$ dipole magnet HD2. The magnet, aimed at demonstrating the application of ${\rm Nb}_{3}{\rm Sn}$ superconductor in high field accelerator-type dipoles, features a 36 mm clear bore surrounded by block-type coils with tilted ends. Fabrication and Test of a 3.7 m Long Support Structure for the LARP ${\hbox{Nb}}_{3}{\hbox{Sn}}$ Quadrupole Magnet LQS01
/ Ferracin, P (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Ambrosio, G (Fermilab) ; Anerella, M (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Bingham, B (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Bossert, R (Fermilab) ; Caspi, S (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Cheng, D W (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Felice, H (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Hafalia, A R (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Hannaford, C R (LBNL, Berkeley) et al.
The 3.7 m long quadrupole magnet LQS01 represents a major step of the US LHC Accelerator Research Program (LARP) towards the development of long Nb$_3$Sn accelerator quadrupole magnets for a LHC Luminosity upgrade. The magnet support structure is a scale up of the 1 m long Technology Quadrupole TQS design with some modifications suggested by TQS model test results. [...]
