The field of detector readout electronics for precise timing has experienced a remarkable surge of interest due to its diverse range of applications in nuclear medicine such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET), High Energy Physics (HEP), Time-of-Flight (ToF) mass spectrometry and many other fields. This growth can be attributed to rapid advancements in photodetectors, particularly the silicon photomultiplier (SiPM), which has demonstrated exceptional suitability for these applications, owing to its ability to generate signals with unprecedentedly fast rise times. The emerging field of ultra-fast timing has enormous potential in high-energy physics, nuclear medicine, and imaging, and is driving advances in detector and readout electronics. To achieve improved time resolution, significant efforts have been devoted to this field, resulting in impressive coincidence time resolution (CTR) values for silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) and scintillator crystals using state-of-the-art high-frequency (HF) readout. This work presents the 8-channel FastIC ASIC developed in CMOS 65 nm technology suitable for the readout of positive and negative polarity sensors in high energy physics experiments, Cherenkov detectors and time-of-flight systems. The front-end can be configured to perform analog summation of up to 4 single-ended channels before discrimination in view of improving time resolution when segmenting a SiPM. [...]

A spaghetti calorimeter (SPACAL) prototype with scintillating crystal fibres was assembled and tested with electron beams of energy from 1 to 5 GeV. The prototype comprised radiation-hard Cerium-doped Gd$_3$Al$_2$Ga$_3$O$_{12}$ (GAGG:Ce) and Y$_3$Al$_5$O$_{12}$ (YAG:Ce) embedded in a pure tungsten absorber. [...]

We are presenting a novel design of a high performance brain dedicated PET scanner which focuses on optimizing imaging performance in the whole brain, as well as in head and neck, through simultaneous high resolution and high sensitivity. This is realized using a sensitivity-optimized scanner design composed of an elliptical cylinder that follows the shape of the human head, together with added front and back panels for increased coverage. 20-ps resolution Clock Distribution Network for a fast-timing single photon detector
/ Egidos, N (CERN) ; Ballabriga, R (CERN) ; Bandi, F (Seville U.) ; Campbell, M (CERN) ; Gascon, D (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Gomez, S (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Fernandez-Tenllado, J M (CERN) ; Llopart, X (CERN) ; Manera, R (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Mauricio, J (ICC, Barcelona U.) et al.
The time resolution of active pixel sensors whose timestamp mechanism is based on Time-to-Digital Converters is critically linked to the accuracy in the distribution of the master clock signal that latches the timestamp values across the detector. The Clock Distribution Network that delivers the master clock signal must compensate process-voltage-temperature variations to reduce static time errors (skew), and minimize the power supply bounce to prevent dynamic time errors (jitter).
