Cesium telluride photocathodes are known to offer high quantum efficiencies under UV illumination combined with good lifetimes compared to other semiconductor photocathodes, making them very popular electron sources for particle accelerator applications. The development of photocathode preparation, characterization, and related expertise at a single accelerator laboratory can be challenging, expensive, and time consuming. [...]

The search for high-performance photocathodes is a priority in the field of particle accelerators. The surface characteristics of a photocathode affect many important factors of the photoemission process including the photoemission threshold, the intrinsic emittance and the quantum efficiency. The AWAKE Run 2 programme and beyond / AWAKE Collaboration
Plasma wakefield acceleration is a promising technology to reduce the size of particle accelerators. Use of high energy protons to drive wakefields in plasma has been demonstrated during Run 1 of the AWAKE programme at CERN. [...]

Controlled Growth of the Self-Modulation of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
A long, narrow, relativistic charged particle bunch propagating in plasma is subject to the self-modulation (SM) instability. We show that SM of a proton bunch can be seeded by the wakefields driven by a preceding electron bunch. [...]

The CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) at CERN has been operating since 2017 as a dedicated user facility providing beams for a varied range of experiments. CLEAR consists of a 20 m long linear accelerator (linac), able to produce beams from a Cs₂Te photocathode and accelerate them to energies of between 60 MeV and 220 MeV. [...]

Analysis of Proton Bunch Parameters in the AWAKE Experiment / AWAKE Collaboration
A precise characterization of the incoming proton bunch parameters is required to accurately simulate the self-modulation process in the Advanced Wakefield Experiment (AWAKE). This paper presents an analysis of the parameters of the incoming proton bunches used in the later stages of the AWAKE Run 1 data-taking period. [...]

Long-range propagation of ultrafast ionizing laser pulses in a resonant nonlinear medium / Demeter, G. (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Moody, J.T. (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Aladi, M. (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Fedosseev, V. (CERN) ; Friebel, F. (CERN) ; Gessner, S. et al.
We study the propagation of 0.05-1 TW power, ultrafast laser pulses in a 10 meter long rubidium vapor cell. The central wavelength of the laser is resonant with the $D_2$ line of rubidium and the peak intensity in the $10^{12}-10^{14} ~W/cm^2$ range, enough to create a plasma channel with single electron ionization. Simulation and Experimental Study of Proton Bunch Self-Modulation in Plasma with Linear Density Gradients / AWAKE Collaboration
We present numerical simulations and experimental results of the self-modulation of a long proton bunch in a plasma with linear density gradients along the beam path. Simulation results agree with the experimental results reported in arXiv:2007.14894v2: with negative gradients, the charge of the modulated bunch is lower than with positive gradients. [...]

Synthesis, surface chemical analysis, lifetime studies and degradation mechanisms of Cs-K-Sb photocathodes / Panuganti, H (CERN) ; Chevallay, E (CERN) ; Fedosseev, V (CERN) ; Himmerlich, M (CERN)
We report synthesis and characterization of a batch of three cesium potassium antimonide photocathodes that have been grown on pure copper substrates via a ternary co-deposition method whose procedure is described herein. A deposition system that was designed for synthesis of two-element photocathodes has been utilized for synthesis of the aforementioned three-element photocathodes with slope of the in situ photocurrent as the driver for the growth process.
