Prospects for Fundamental Physics with LISA / LISA Collaboration
In this paper, which is of programmatic rather than quantitative nature, we aim to further delineate and sharpen the future potential of the LISA mission in the area of fundamental physics. Given the very broad range of topics that might be relevant to LISA, we present here a sample of what we view as particularly promising directions, based in part on the current research interests of the LISA scientific community in the area of fundamental physics. The LIGO discoveries have rekindled suggestions that primordial black holes (BHs) may constitute part to all of the dark matter (DM) in the Universe. [...]

Exploring cosmic origins with CORE: Survey requirements and mission design / CORE Collaboration
Future observations of cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarisation have the potential to answer some of the most fundamental questions of modern physics and cosmology. In this paper, we list the requirements for a future CMB polarisation survey addressing these scientific objectives, and discuss the design drivers of the CORE space mission proposed to ESA in answer to the "M5" call for a medium-sized mission. [...]

We forecast the scientific capabilities to improve our understanding of cosmic inflation of CORE, a proposed CMB space satellite submitted in response to the ESA fifth call for a medium-size mission opportunity. The CORE satellite will map the CMB anisotropies in temperature and polarization in 19 frequency channels spanning the range 60-600 GHz. [...]

Heavy fields coupled to the inflaton reduce the speed of sound in the effective theory of the adiabatic mode each time the background inflationary trajectory deviates from a geodesic. This can result in features in the primordial spectra. [...]

Heavy fields, reduced speeds of sound and decoupling during inflation / Achucarro, Ana (Basque U., Bilbao ; Leiden U.) ; Atal, Vicente (Leiden U.) ; Cespedes, Sebastian (Chile U., Santiago) ; Gong, Jinn-Ouk (CERN) ; Palma, Gonzalo A (Chile U., Santiago) ; Patil, Subodh P (Ecole Polytechnique, CPHT)
We discuss and clarify the validity of effective single field theories of inflation obtained by integrating out heavy degrees of freedom in the regime where adiabatic perturbations propagate with a suppressed speed of sound. We show by construction that it is indeed possible to have inflationary backgrounds where the speed of sound remains suppressed and slow-roll persists for long enough. [...]

Effective theories of single field inflation when heavy fields matter / Achucarro, Ana (Leiden U. ; Basque U., Bilbao) ; Gong, Jinn-Ouk (CERN) ; Hardeman, Sjoerd (Leiden U.) ; Palma, Gonzalo A (Chile U., Beaucheff) ; Patil, Subodh P (Ec. Polytech., Palaiseau (main) ; Ecole Normale Superieure)
We compute the low energy effective field theory (EFT) expansion for single-field inflationary models that descend from a parent theory containing multiple other scalar fields. By assuming that all other degrees of freedom in the parent theory are sufficiently massive relative to the inflaton, it is possible to derive an EFT valid to arbitrary order in perturbations, provided certain generalized adiabaticity conditions are respected.
