ARIADNE -- A Novel Optical LArTPC: Technical Design Report and Initial Characterisation using a Secondary Beam from the CERN PS and Cosmic Muons
/ Hollywood, D. (Liverpool U.) ; Majumdar, K. (Liverpool U.) ; Mavrokoridis, K. (Liverpool U.) ; Mccormick, K.J. (Liverpool U.) ; Philippou, B. (Liverpool U.) ; Powell, S. (Liverpool U.) ; Roberts, A. (Liverpool U.) ; Smith, N.A. (Liverpool U.) ; Stavrakis, G. (Liverpool U.) ; Touramanis, C. (Liverpool U.) et al.
ARIADNE is a 1-ton (330 kg fiducial mass) dual-phase liquid argon (LAr) time projection chamber (TPC) featuring a novel optical readout. Four electron-multiplying charge-coupled device (EMCCD) cameras are mounted externally, and these capture the secondary scintillation light produced in the holes of a thick electron gas multiplier (THGEM). ARIADNE: Beam Time and Resources Request
/ Majumdar, K ; Mavrokoridis, K ; McCormick, K J ; Philippou, B ; Roberts, A ; Stavrakis, G ; Touramanis, C ; Vann, J
The ARIADNE research programme is based around developing an optical readout system for use in LAr TPC detectors, which could potentially have a number of bene ts over the currently used segmented anode planes - particularly in matters of scalability for future kilo-tonne scale detectors, ease of installation, use and maintenance, and reconstruction resolution. Development of the kaon tagging system for the NA62 experiment at CERN
/ Goudzovski, Evgueni (Birmingham U.) ; Krivda, Marian (Birmingham U. ; Kosice, IEF) ; Lazzeroni, Cristina (Orsay) ; Massri, Karim (Birmingham U.) ; Newson, Francis O. (Birmingham U.) ; Pyatt, Simon (Birmingham U.) ; Romano, Angela (Birmingham U.) ; Serghi, Xen (Birmingham U.) ; Sergi, Antonino (Birmingham U.) ; Staley, Richard J. (Birmingham U.) et al.
The NA62 experiment at CERN aims to make a precision measurement of the ultra-rare decay $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\nu\overline{\nu}$, and relies on a differential Cherenkov detector (KTAG) to identify charged kaons at an average rate of 50 MHz in a 750 MHz unseparated hadron beam. The experimental sensitivity of NA62 to K-decay branching ratios (BR) of $10^{-11}$ requires a time resolution for the KTAG of better than 100 ps, an efficiency better than 95% and a contamination of the kaon sample that is smaller than $10^{-4}$.
