Characterization and verification of the Shunt-LDO regulator and its protection circuits for serial powering of the ATLAS and CMS pixel detectors / Kampkötter, Jeremias (Applied Sci. U., Dortmund) ; Karagounis, Michael (Applied Sci. U., Dortmund) ; Koukola, Dominik (CERN) ; Loddo, Flavio (INFN, Bari) ; Orfanelli, Stella (CERN) ; Luengo, Alvaro Pradas (EADS CASA, Madrid) ; Traversi, Gianluca (Bergamo U.) ; Kokozinski, Rainer (Duisburg-Essen U.)
The Shunt-LDO regulator has been integrated in the ATLAS and the CMS pixel detector RD53 front-end chip to implement the serial powering scheme which both experiments have chosen as the baseline option for the HL-LHC upgrade. The performance of the integrated regulators has been characterized and specific design challenges have been identified which are related to layout parasitics and shallow trench isolation (STI) stress effects. Beam test performance of a prototype module with Short Strip ASICs for the CMS HL-LHC tracker upgrade / Tracker Group of the CMS Collaboration
The Short Strip ASIC (SSA) is one of the four front-end chips designed for the upgrade of the CMS Outer Tracker for the High Luminosity LHC. Together with the Macro-Pixel ASIC (MPA) it will instrument modules containing a strip and a macro-pixel sensor stacked on top of each other. [...]

Test results of RD53B chips for ATLAS and CMS phase-2 pixel upgrades / Koukola, Dominik (speaker) (CERN)
Following the RD53A demonstrator, the ItkPix (ATLAS) and CROC (CMS) pixel readout chips are being developed within the RD53 collaboration for the HL-LHC pixel detector upgrades of the two experiments. The two chips are based on a common design, called RD53B, in 65nm CMOS technology and are optimized for very high rate (3GHz/cm2) and radiation levels (>500Mrad). [...]

Comparative evaluation of analogue front-end designs for the CMS Inner Tracker at the High Luminosity LHC / CMS Tracker Group of the CMS Collaboration
The CMS Inner Tracker, made of silicon pixel modules, will be entirely replaced prior to the start of the High Luminosity LHC period. One of the crucial components of the new Inner Tracker system is the readout chip, being developed by the RD53 Collaboration, and in particular its analogue front-end, which receives the signal from the sensor and digitizes it. [...]

The CMS Phase-1 Pixel Detector Upgrade / CMS Tracker Group of the CMS Collaboration
The CMS detector at the CERN LHC features a silicon pixel detector as its innermost subdetector. The original CMS pixel detector has been replaced with an upgraded pixel system (CMS Phase-1 pixel detector) in the extended year-end technical stop of the LHC in 2016/2017. [...]

U., Dortmund) ; Traversi, Gianluca (Bergamo U.) ; Luengo, Alvaro Pradas (Zaragoza, ITA) ; Koukola, Dominik (CERN) ; Orfanelli, Stella (CERN) ; Hinterkeuser, Florian (Bonn U.)
Serial powering is the baseline option for the pixel detectors in both the ATLAS and the CMS experiments targeting the phase II HL-LHC upgrade. The Shunt-LDO regulator is integrated in the front-end chips to generate the required supply voltages. [...]

Serial Powering for the Tracker Phase-2 Upgrade / Koukola, Dominik (CERN) /CMS Collaboration
The high luminosity phase of the LHC at CERN will bring unprecedented operational conditions for the experiments. To cope with the harsh radiation environment and extreme hit rates in the innermost layers of the detector, both ATLAS and CMS will upgrade their inner tracker pixel detectors. [...]

Serial powering is the baseline choice for low mass power distribution for the CMS and ATLAS HL-LHC pixel detectors. The RD53A prototype chip (65 nm CMOS) integrates 2 shunt-LDO (SLDO) regulators that allow providing constant voltage to each power domain (analog and digital) within a serial power chain with constant current.
