A lead-scintillating fiber calorimeter to increase L3 hermeticity / Basti, G (Rome U.) ; Boucham, A (Annecy, LAPP) ; Camberlin, B (Annecy, LAPP) ; Campanelli, M (ETH, Zurich (main)) ; Cavallari, F (Rome U.) ; Cecchi, C (Geneva U.) ; De Notaristefani, F (Rome III U.) ; Diemoz, M (Rome U.) ; Faccini, R (Rome U.) ; Ferroni, F (Rome U.) et al.
A lead-scintillating fiber calorimeter has been built to fill the gap between endcap and barrel of the L3 BGO electromagnetic calorimeter. We report details of the construction, as well as results from test-beam and simulation..

Test of the $\tau$-Model of Bose-Einstein Correlations and Reconstruction of the Source Function in Hadronic Z-boson Decay at LEP / L3 Collaboration
Bose-Einstein correlations of pairs of identical charged pions produced in ha- dronic Z decays are analyzed in terms of various parametrizations. A good descrip- tion is achieved using a L ́evy stable distribution in conjunction with a model where a particle’s momentum is correlated with its space-time point of production, the tau-model. [...]

Study of resonance formation in the mass region 1400 - 1500 MeV through the reaction $\gamma\gamma \to K^{0}_{S} K^{\pm} \pi^{\mp}$ / L3 Collaboration
The K^0_SK^+-\pi-+ final state in two-photon collisions is studied with the L3 detector at LEP at e+e- centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 664.6 pb-1. The \eta(1475) and f1(1420) mesons are observed and their contribution is separated by measuring the formation rates as a function of the photon virtuality Q2. [...]

The Solar Flare of the 14th of July 2000 (L3+C detector results) / L3 Collaboration
Several experiments have reported observations on possible correlations between the flux of high energy muons and intense solar flares. If confirmed, these observations would have significant implications for acceleration processes in the heliosphere able to accelerate protons and other ions to energies of at least tens of GeV. [...]

A search for flaring Very-High-Energy cosmic-ray sources with the L3+C muon spectrometer / L3 Collaboration
The L3+C muon detector at the Cern electron-position collider, LEP, is used for the detection of very-high-energy cosmic \gamma-ray sources through the observation of muons of energies above 20, 30, 50 and 100 GeV. Daily or monthly excesses in the rate of single-muon events pointing to some particular direction in the sky are searched for. [...]

X-ray-sensitive hybrid photon detectors with Be-windows / D'Ambrosio, Carmelo ; De Notaristefani, Francesco ; Leutz, Heinrich ; Puertolas, D ; Rosso, Ettore
A 0.3-mm thin YAlO/sub 3/(Ce) scintillating crystal plate of 22 mm diameter was mounted inside an electrostatic-focussed hybrid photomultiplier tube (HPMT). The photocathode was evaporated directly on this scintillating plate opposite to the HPMT-anode. [...]

Search for single photon direct production in p+p collisions at square root s=532 GeV / Amaldi, Edoardo ; Beneventano, M ; Borgia, B ; Capone, A ; De Notaristefani, F ; Dell, G F ; Dore, U ; Ferroni, F ; Kantardjian, G ; Longo, E et al.
From measurements at the ISR of CERN with a lead glass counter matrix the authors establish an upper limit of 6% (at 95% C.L.) for the ratio of the directly produced photons to the produced pi /sup 0/ at 90 degrees and square root s=53.2 GeV in the p*/sub T/ region 2.3-3.7 GeV /c. (8 refs)..

Single direct photon production in pp collisions at square root s=532 GeV in the p/sub t/ interval 23 to 57 GeV/c / Amaldi, Edoardo ; Beneventano, M ; Borgia, B ; Capone, A ; De Notaristefani, F ; Dell, G F ; Dooher, J ; Dore, U ; Ferroni, F ; Kantardjian, G et al.
The results of an experiment made at the CERN ISR to investigate the possible direct production of single photons in pp collisions at square root s=53.2 GeV at 90 degrees and in the p/sub t/ interval 2.3 to 5.7 GeV/c are reported. The value of the ratio R=n/sub gamma //n /sub pi /0 compatible with zero for low p/sub t/<or approximately=3 Ge V/c but, in spite of the large error, shows a trend to increase for larger p/sub t/. Measurement of Branching Fractions of $\tau$ Hadronic Decays / L3 Collaboration
Using data collected with the L3 detector at LEP at the Z peak, the branching fractions of the $\tau$ lepton into the hadronic final states, $h^- n\pi^0 \nu(n=0,1,2, >= 3)$ and $h^-h^+h^- n\pi^0 \nu$ where $h^\pm$ denotes a charged hadron, are measured to be .....

Gamma spectroscopy and optoelectronic imaging with hybrid photon detector / D'Ambrosio, C ; Leutz, H ; Piedigrossi, D ; Rosso, E ; Cenceelli, V ; De Notaristefani, F ; Masini, Gérald ; Puertolas, D ; Cindolo, F ; Mares, J A et al.
Hybrid Photon Detectors (HPD) detect light via photocathodes and accelerate the emitted photoelectrons by an electric field towards silicon PIN-anodes, where they are absorbed and generate electronic signals. We have developed two specific types of HPDs: (1) Hybrid photomultiplier tubes for photon counting and gamma spectroscopy; (2) Imaging silicon pixel array tubes for optoelectronic cameras. [...]
