Operation of the CERN disk storage infrastructure during LHC Run-3
/ Caffy, Cedric (CERN) ; Amadio, Guilherme (CERN) ; Rios, Maria Arsuaga (CERN) ; Reis, Manuel Batalha (CERN) ; Capitoni, Niccolo (CERN) ; Contescu, Cristian (CERN) ; Guenther, Jaroslav (CERN) ; Mascetti, Luca (CERN) ; Peters, Andreas (CERN) ; Sindrilaru, Elvin (CERN) et al.
The CERN IT Storage group operates multiple distributed storage systems to support all CERN data storage requirements. The storage and distribution of physics data generated by LHC and non-LHC experiments is one of the biggest challenges the group has to take on during LHC Run-3.EOS [1], the CERN distributed disk storage system is playing a key role in LHC data-taking. Computational Mirror Symmetry
/ Demirtas, Mehmet (IAIFI, Cambridge ; Northeastern U.) ; Kim, Manki (MIT, LNS) ; McAllister, Liam (Cornell U.) ; Moritz, Jakob (Cornell U. ; CERN) ; Rios-Tascon, Andres (Cornell U.)
We present an efficient algorithm for computing the prepotential in compactifications of type II string theory on mirror pairs of Calabi-Yau threefolds in toric varieties. Applying this method, we exhibit the first systematic computation of genus-zero Gopakumar-Vafa invariants in compact threefolds with many moduli, including examples with up to 491 vector multiplets..

FTS improvements for LHC Run-3 and beyond
/ Karavakis, Edward (CERN) ; Manzi, Andrea (CERN) ; Rios, Maria Arsuaga (CERN) ; Keeble, Oliver (CERN) ; Cabot, Carles Garcia (CERN) ; Simon, Michal (CERN) ; Patrascoiu, Mihai (CERN) ; Angelogiannopoulos, Aris (CERN)
The File Transfer Service (FTS) developed at CERN and in production since 2014, has become a fundamental component for the LHC experiments and is tightly integrated with experiment frameworks. Starting from the beginning of 2018 with the participation to the European Commission funded project eXtreme Data Cloud (XDC) and the activities carried out in the context of the WLCG DOMA TPC and QoS working groups, a series of new developments and improvements have been planned and performed taking also into account the requirements from the experiments in preparation for the LHC Run-3. CERN Disk Storage Services: Report from last data taking, evolution and future outlook towards Exabyte-scale storage
/ Mascetti, Luca (CERN) ; Rios, Maria Arsuaga (CERN) ; Bocchi, Enrico (CERN) ; Vicente, Joao Calado (CERN) ; Cheong, Belinda Chan Kwok (CERN) ; Castro, Diogo (CERN) ; Collet, Julien (CERN) ; Contescu, Cristian (CERN) ; Labrador, Hugo Gonzalez (CERN) ; Iven, Jan (CERN) et al.
The CERN IT Storage group operates multiple distributed storage systems to support all CERN data storage requirements: the physics data generated by LHC and non-LHC experiments; object and file storage for infrastructure services; block storage for the CERN cloud system; filesystems for general use and specialized HPC clusters; content distribution filesystem for software distribution and condition databases; and sync&share; cloud storage for end-user files. The total integrated capacity of these systems exceeds 0.6 Exabyte.Large-scale experiment data taking has been supported by EOS and CASTOR for the last 10+ years. [...]

Triangulating the Landscape
/ Rios, Andres (speaker) (Cornell University)
One of the main contributors to the vastness of the string landscape is the immense number of Calabi-Yau (CY) manifolds on which the theory can be compactified. Currently, one of the largest sets of CYs is obtained from hypersurfaces in toric varieties, which result from fine, regular, star triangulations (FRSTs) of reflexive polytopes. [...]

The $^{33} \text{S(n,} \alpha)^{30} \text{Si}$ cross section measurement at n_TOF-EAR2 (CERN): From 0.01 eV to the resonance region
/ Sabaté-Gilarte, M (CERN ; Seville U.) ; Praena, J ; Porras, I ; Quesada, J M ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Andrzejewski, J ; Audouin, L ; Bécares, V ; Bacak, M ; Balibrea-Correa, J et al.
/n_TOF
The $^{33} \text{S(n,} \alpha)^{30} \text{Si}$ cross section measurement, using $^{10} \text{B(n,} \alpha)$ as reference, at the n_TOF Experimental Area 2 (EAR2) facility at CERN is presented. Data from 0.01 eV to 100 keV are provided and, for the first time, the cross section is measured in the range from 0.01 eV to 10 keV. [...]

The study of the resonant structures in neutron-nucleus cross-sections, and therefore of the compound-nucleus reaction mechanism, requires spectroscopic measurements to determine with high accuracy the energy of the neutron interacting with the material under study..
