A Superconducting Permeameter for Characterizing Soft Magnetic Materials at High Fields / Arpaia, Pasquale (Naples U., Ist. Elettrotecnica) ; Buzio, Marco (CERN) ; Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN) ; Liccardo, Annalisa (Naples U., Ist. Elettrotecnica) ; Parrella, Alessandro (CERN) ; Pentella, Mariano (Naples U., Ist. Elettrotecnica) ; Ramos, Pedro M (Lisbon, IST) ; Stubberud, Edvard (Norwegian U. Sci. Tech.)
A superconducting permeameter is proposed to characterize the magnetic properties of high-energy superconducting magnet yokes at their operating temperature and saturation level. The main problem of superconducting coils, an undesired quench, was faced by specific protection simulations, which has led to a self-protected system. [...]

Magnetic Properties of Pure Iron for the Upgrade of the LHC Superconducting Dipole and Quadrupole Magnets / Parrella, A (U. Naples (main) ; CERN ; IST, Lisbon (main)) ; Arpaia, P (U. Naples (main) ; CERN) ; Buzio, M (CERN) ; Liccardo, A (U. Naples (main)) ; Pentella, M (U. Naples (main) ; CERN) ; Principe, R (CERN) ; Ramos, P M (IST, Lisbon (main))
The construction of the superconducting magnets for the High-Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider accelerator at Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire has resulted in demands for 1800 tons of ferromagnetic laminations for the magnet iron yokes. The magnetic properties of the selected steel, ARMCO Pure Iron, have been measured, within annealing treatment sequences from 750 °C to 850 °C, at operation temperatures of 4-300 K. [...]

On the use of fluxmetric methods for characterizing feebly magnetic materials / Arpaia, Pasquale (U. Naples (main)) ; Liccardo, Annalisa (U. Naples (main)) ; Buzio, Marco (CERN) ; Parrella, Alessandro (IST, Lisbon (main))
The problems related to the use of a split-coil permeameter for measuring the magnetic properties of materials with low relative permeability are faced. In particular, a challenging problem arises from the series production of steel tapes: magnetic and paramagnetic materials, in fact, exhibit different magnetic properties according to the production process (i.e. [...]

Inverse Problem-Based Magnetic Characterization of Weekly Magnetic Alloys / Parrella, Alessandro (Lisbon, INOV) ; Arpaia, Pasquale (Naples U.) ; Buzio, Marco (CERN) ; Liccardo, Annalisa (Naples U.) ; Ramos, Pedro (Lisbon, INOV)
Understanding the magnetic properties of materials used in accelerator components is becoming more and more important. For example, in the upcoming LHC upgrade at CERN, the increasing luminosity will boost the radiation dose received by the accelerator magnet's coil and consequently decrease its lifespan. [...]

Metrological Characterization of the Bunch Length Measurement by Means of a RF Deflector at the ELI-NP Compton Gamma source / Sabato, Luca (Sannio U. ; INFN, Naples) ; Alesini, David (Frascati) ; Arpaia, Pasquale (CERN ; Naples U.) ; Giribono, Anna (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Liccardo, Annalisa (Naples U.) ; Mostacci, Andrea (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Palumbo, Luigi (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Vaccarezza, Cristina (Frascati) ; Variola, Alessandro (Frascati)
Bunch length measurement in linac can be carried out using a RF deflector, which provides a transverse kick to the beam. The transverse beam size on a screen, placed after the RF deflector, represents the bunch length. [...]

Metrological analysis of a virtual flowmeter-based transducer for cryogenic helium / Arpaia, P (U. Naples (main) ; CERN) ; Girone, M (CERN ; Sannio U.) ; Liccardo, A (U. Naples (main)) ; Pezzetti, M (CERN) ; Piccinelli, F (Brescia U.)
The metrological performance of a virtual flowmeter-based transducer for monitoring helium under cryogenic conditions is assessed. At this aim, an uncertainty model of the transducer, mainly based on a valve model, exploiting finite-element approach, and a virtual flowmeter model, based on the Sereg-Schlumberger method, are presented.
