Measurement of $^{12}$C Fragmentation Cross Sections on C, O, and H in the Energy Range of Interest for Particle Therapy Applications / Mattei, I ; Alexandrov, A ; Alunni Solestizi, L ; Ambrosi, G ; Argiro, S ; Bartosik, N ; Battistoni, G ; Belcari, N ; Biondi, S ; Bisogni, M G et al.
In a carbon ion treatment the nuclear fragmentation of both target and beam projectiles impacts on the dose released on the tumor and on the surrounding healthy tissues. Carbon ion fragmentation occurring inside the patient body has to be studied in order to take into account this contribution. [...]

In hadron therapy, the accelerated ions, interacting with the body of the patient, cause the fragmentation of both projectile and target nuclei. The fragments interact with the human tissues depositing energy both in the entrance channel and in the volume surrounding the tumor. [...]

Monitoring Proton Therapy Through in-Beam PET: An Experimental Phantom Study / Topi, A (INFN, Pisa) ; Muraro, S (INFN, Pisa) ; Battistoni, G (INFN, Milan) ; Belcari, N (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Bisogni, M G (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Camarlinghi, N (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Del Guerra, A (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Ferrari, A (CERN) ; Kopec, R (Cracow, INP) ; Kraan, A C (INFN, Pisa) et al.
In this paper, we investigate the use of a positron emission tomography (PET) system to monitor the proton therapy. The monitoring procedure is based on the comparison between the β+ activity generated in the irradiated volume during the treatment, with the β+ activity distribution obtained with Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. Online monitoring for proton therapy: A real-time procedure using a planar PET system / Kraan, A C (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Battistoni, G (INFN, Milan) ; Belcari, N (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Camarlinghi, N (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Ciocca, M (CNAO, Pavia) ; Ferrari, A (CERN) ; Ferretti, S (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Mairani, A (CNAO, Pavia) ; Molinelli, S (CNAO, Pavia) ; Pullia, M (CNAO, Pavia) et al.
In this study a procedure for range verification in proton therapy by means of a planar in-beam PET system is presented. The procedure consists of two steps: the measurement of the β+-activity induced in the irradiated body by the proton beam and the comparison of these distributions with simulations. [...]

Electroweak Measurements in Electron-Positron Collisions at W-Boson-Pair Energies at LEP / ALEPH Collaboration
Electroweak measurements performed with data taken at the electron-positron collider LEP at CERN from 1995 to 2000 are reported. The combined data set considered in this report corresponds to a total luminosity of about 3~fb$^{-1}$ collected by the four LEP experiments ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL, at centre-of-mass energies ranging from $130~GeV$ to $209~GeV$ [...]

Search for neutral Higgs bosons decaying into four taus at LEP2 / ALEPH Collaboration
A search for the production and non-standard decay of a Higgs boson, h, into four taus through intermediate pseudoscalars, a, is conducted on 683 pb-1 of data collected by the ALEPH experiment at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209 GeV. No excess of events above background is observed, and exclusion limits are placed on the combined production cross section times branching ratio, \xi^2 = \sigma(e+e- --> Zh)/\sigma_{SM}(e+e- --> Zh) x B(h --> aa)x B(a --> \tau^+\tau^-)^2. Measurement of Z-pair production in $e^+e^−$ collisions and constraints on anomalous neutral gauge couplings / Aleph Collaboration
The ZZ production cross section is measured from a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 452 pb−1, collected by the ALEPH experiment at LEP at centre-of-mass energies from 192 to 209 GeV. Individual cross sections, extracted at six centre-of-mass energies, are found to be in agreement with Standard Model calculations. [...]

Quarkonium Production Studies in CMS / Yang, Z. (Peking U. ; Lanzhou U.) ; Kraan, A.C. (INFN, Pisa) /CMS Collaboration
When the LHC starts its operation, CMS will have a unique opportunity to study quarkonium production in $pp$ collisions and later in $PbPb$ collisions. Here we report on the methods and plans for measuring the differential $p_T$~ $J\psi\rightarrow\mu^+\mu^-$ production cross section, using data to be collected in the first LHC run by the CMS detector.
