/ Koenig, Thomas (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) ; Zuber, Marcus (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) ; Hamann, Elias (Freiburg U. ; Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) ; Cecilia, Angelica (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) ; Ballabriga, Rafael (CERN) ; Campbell, Michael (CERN) ; Ruat, Marie (ESRF, Grenoble) ; Tlustos, Lukas (CERN) ; Fauler, Alex (Freiburg U.) ; Fiederle, Michael (Freiburg U. ; Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) et al.
Spectroscopic x-ray imaging based on pixellated semiconductor detectors can be sensitive to charge sharing and K-fluorescence, depending on the sensor material used, its thickness and the pixel pitch employed. As a consequence, spectroscopic resolution is partially lost. [...]

Charge Summing in Spectroscopic X-Ray Detectors With High-Z Sensors
/ Koenig, Thomas (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) ; Procz, Simon (Freiburg U.) ; Cecilia, Angelica (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) ; Ballabriga, Rafael (CERN) ; Baumbach, Tilo (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) ; Llopart, Xavier (CERN) ; Fiederle, Michael (Freiburg U.) ; Zuber, Marcus (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) ; Hamann, Elias (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, ANKA) ; Fauler, Alex (Freiburg U.) et al.
The spectroscopic performance of photon counting detectors is limited by the effects of charge sharing between neighboring pixels and the emission of characteristic X-rays. For these reasons, an event can be either missed or counted more than once. [...]

The aim of the LUMEN co-operation, supported by INFN, is to obtain ful experimental characterisation and deep expertise of heavy scintillator for high energy physics. The advantage of this collaboration was mainly in the complementary character of the experimental techniques available in the partner laboratories and in the availability of highly experienced scientists indifferent fields. The optical damage induced by UV light in PbWO4 crystals is found to be similar to that induced by g radiation. Due to the peculiarities of optical absorption in PbWO4, the damage induced by UV light is a bulk process. [...]

Further understanding of PbWO4 Scintillator characteristics and their optimisation. LUMEN activity in 1998

The aim of LUMEN collaboration was the investigation on single crystals of PbWO4 ( PWO): the results performed up to now provide the evidence of the possibility to optimise the optical properties of an intrinsic scintillator such as PWO. The control of essential requirements in the crystal preparation ( raw material purity, growing methods and post-growth annealing) as well as the introduction of selected dopants at suitable concentrations ( particularly trivalent and pentavalent ions) were found to be very successful in lowering the concentration of point defects in the lattice which strongly affect scintillation properties and radiation hardness. / Auffray, Etiennette (CERN) ; Annenkov, Alexander (Bogoroditsk Techno Chemical Plant, Russia) ; Baccaro, Stefania (ENEA-INN/TEC/IRR , Casaccia Research Center, Roma, Italy) ; Cecilia, Angelica (ENEA-INN/TEC/IRR , Casaccia Research Center, Roma, Italy) ; Dafinei, Ioan (INFN, S. di Roma, Roma, Italy) ; Diemoz, Marcella (INFN, S. di Roma, Roma, Italy) ; Jarolímek, O (CRYTUR, Turnov, Czech Republic) ; Korzhik, Mikhail ; Lecoq, Paul (CERN) ; Nikl, M (Institute of Physics, Prague, Czech Republic)
A very good radiation resistance of Lead Tungstate crystals is mandatory for their use in the high precision electromagnetic calorimeter of the CMS experiment at LHC. Since the beginning of 1996 we have organised systematic investigations of the parameters influencing the radiation hardness of this crystal. [...]
