Measurement of the emittance of accelerated electron bunches at the AWAKE experiment / AWAKE Collaboration
The vertical plane transverse emittance of accelerated electron bunches at the AWAKE experiment at CERN has been determined, using three different methods of data analysis. [...]

The workshop focused on the application of ANAs to particle physics keeping in mind the ultimate goal of a collider at the energy frontier (10 TeV, e$^+$/e$^-$, e$^-$/e$^-$, or $\gamma\gamma$). [...]

Experimental Observation of Motion of Ions in a Resonantly Driven Plasma Wakefield Accelerator / AWAKE Collaboration
We show experimentally that an effect of motion of ions, observed in a plasma-based accelerator, depends inversely on the plasma ion mass. [...]

Injection of a LWFA Electron Bunch in a PWFA Driven by a Self-modulated-proton-bunch / Muggli, Patric (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Amorim, Ligia (Lisbon, IST) ; Karsch, Stefan (Garching, Max Planck Inst.) ; Lopes, Nelson (Lisbon, IST) ; Vieira, Jorge (Lisbon, IST)
The AWAKE experiment recently approved at CERN will study the acceleration of an externally injected electron bunch in a plasma wakefield accelerator (PWFA) driven by a self-modulated proton bunch. We study the possibility of injecting a bunch created by a laser-driven plasma wakefield accelerator (LWFA). [...]

Hosing of a long relativistic particle bunch in plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
Experimental results show that hosing of a long particle bunch in plasma can be induced by wakefields driven by a short, misaligned preceding bunch. Hosing develops in the plane of misalignment, self-modulation in the perpendicular plane, at frequencies close to the plasma electron frequency, and are reproducible. [...]

Filamentation of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
We show in experiments that a long, underdense, relativistic proton bunch propagating in plasma undergoes the oblique instability, that we observe as filamentation. We determine a threshold value for the ratio between the bunch transverse size and plasma skin depth for the instability to occur. [...]

The ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider: a description of the detector configuration for Run 3 / ATLAS Collaboration
The ATLAS detector is installed in its experimental cavern at Point 1 of the CERN Large Hadron Collider. During Run 2 of the LHC, a luminosity of $\mathcal{L}=2\times 10^{34}\mathrm{cm}^{-2}\mathrm{s}^{-1}$ was routinely achieved at the start of fills, twice the design luminosity. [...]

Development of the Self-Modulation Instability of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
Self-modulation is a beam-plasma instability that is useful to drive large-amplitude wakefields with bunches much longer than the plasma skin depth. We present experimental results showing that, when increasing the ratio between the initial transverse size of the bunch and the plasma skin depth, the instability occurs later along the bunch, or not at all, over a fixed plasma length, because the amplitude of the initial wakefields decreases. [...]

EuPRAXIA – a compact, cost-efficient particle and radiation source / Weikum, M K (DESY) ; Akhter, T (INFN, Naples) ; Alesini, P D (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Alexandrova, A S (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Plasma accelerators present one of the most suitable candidates for the development of more compact particle acceleration technologies, yet they still lag behind radiofrequency (RF)-based devices when it comes to beam quality, control, stability and power efficiency. The Horizon 2020-funded project EuPRAXIA (“European Plasma Research Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications”) aims to overcome the first three of these hurdles by developing a conceptual design for a first international user facility based on plasma acceleration. Mitigation of the onset of hosing in the linear regime through plasma frequency detuning / Moreira, Mariana (Lisbon, IST) ; Muggli, Patric (Munich, Max Planck Inst. ; CERN) ; Vieira, Jorge (Lisbon, IST)
The hosing instability poses a feasibility risk for plasma-based accelerator concepts. We show that the growth rate for beam hosing in the linear regime (which is relevant for concepts that use a long driver) is a function of the centroid perturbation wavelength. [...]
