The Electron Capture in $^{163}$Ho Experiment - a Short Update / Kovac, Neven (Kirchhoff Inst. Phys.) ; Ahrens, Felix (Kirchhoff Inst. Phys.) ; Barth, Arnulf (Kirchhoff Inst. Phys.) ; Berndt, Sebastian (Mainz U. ; Mainz U., Inst. Phys.) ; Blaum, Klaus (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Brass, Martin (U. Heidelberg, ITP) ; Bruer, Erik (Kirchhoff Inst. Phys.) ; Door, Menno (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Dorrer, Holger (Mainz U.) ; Düllmann, Christoph (Mainz U.) et al.
The definition of the absolute neutrino mass scale is one of the main goals of the Particle Physics today. The study of the end-point regions of the $\beta$- and electron capture (EC) spectrum offers a possibility to determine the effective electron (anti-)neutrino mass in a completely model independent way, as it only relies on the energy and momentum conservation. [...]

High-resolution and low-background $^{163}$Ho spectrum: interpretation of the resonance tails / Velte, C (Kirchhoff Inst. Phys.) ; Ahrens, F (Kirchhoff Inst. Phys.) ; Barth, A (Kirchhoff Inst. The determination of the effective electron neutrino mass via kinematic analysis of beta and electron capture spectra is considered to be model-independent since it relies on energy and momentum conservation. At the same time the precise description of the expected spectrum goes beyond the simple phase space term. [...]

Characterization of the Ho163 Electron Capture Spectrum: A Step Towards the Electron Neutrino Mass Determination / Ranitzsch, P C -O (Kirchhoff Inst. Phys.) ; Hassel, C (Kirchhoff Inst. The isotope 163 Ho is in many ways the best candidate to perform experiments to investigate the value of the electron neutrino mass. It undergoes an electron capture process to 163 Dy with an energy available to the decay, Q EC , of about 2.8 keV. [...]

Kernphys. ; Helmholtz Inst., Mainz) ; Eliseev, S (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) et al.
Neutrinos, and in particular their tiny but non-vanishing masses, can be considered one of the doors towards physics beyond the Standard Model. Precision measurements of the kinematics of weak interactions, in particular of the$^{3}$H β-decay and the$^{163}$Ho electron capture (EC), represent the only model independent approach to determine the absolute scale of neutrino masses. The Electron Capture in$^{163}$ Ho experiment, ECHo, is designed to investigate the electron neutrino mass in the sub-eV range by means of the analysis of the calorimetrically measured spectrum following the electron capture (EC) in$^{163}$ Ho. Arrays of low-temperature metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs), read-out by microwave SQUID multiplexing, will be used in this experiment. [...]

We present a comprehensive review of keV-scale sterile neutrino Dark Matter, collecting views and insights from all disciplines involved - cosmology, astrophysics, nuclear, and particle physics - in each case viewed from both theoretical and experimental/observational perspectives. After reviewing the role of active neutrinos in particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology, we focus on sterile neutrinos in the context of the Dark Matter puzzle. [...]

For the first time we have investigated the behavior of fully micro-fabricated low temperature metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs) after undergoing an ion-implantation process. This experiment had the aim to show the possibility to perform a high precision calorimetric measurement of the energy spectrum following the electron capture of $^{163}$Ho using MMCs having the radioactive $^{163}$Ho ions implanted in the absorber.
