Porous silicon carbide and aluminum oxide with unidirectional open porosity as model target materials for radioisotope beam production / Czapski, M. (CERN) ; Stora, T. (CERN) ; Tardivat, C. ; Deville, S. ; Santos Augusto, R. (CERN) ; Leloup, J. ; Bouville, F. ; Fernandes Luis, R.
New silicon carbide (SiC) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3) of a tailor-made microstructure were produced using the ice-templating technique, which permits controlled pore formation conditions within the material. These prototypes will serve to verify aging of the new advanced target materials under irradiation with proton beams. [...]

An overview of the HIE-ISOLDE Design Study / Catherall, R (CERN) ; Czapski, M (CERN) ; Polato, A (CERN) ; Stora, T (CERN) ; Huyse, M (Louvain U., Inst. Phys. Nucl.) ; Fowler, T (CERN) ; Venturi, V (CERN) ; Augustin, M (CERN) ; Montano, J (CERN) ; Van Duppen, P (Louvain U., Inst. Phys. Nucl.) et al.
The On-Line Isotope Mass Separator ISOLDE 111 is a facility dedicated to the production of a large variety of radioactive ion beams (RIB) for a great number of different experiments. Over 1000 radioactive nuclides from 70 elements can be produced in thick high-temperature targets via spallation, fission or fragmentation reactions with the PS-Booster pulsed proton-beam. [...]

Design of Air-Cooled Beam Dump for Extraction Line of PS Booster / Perillo-Marcone, A (CERN) ; Sarrio-Martinez, A (CERN) ; Venturi, V (CERN) ; Antonakakis, T (CERN) ; Vlachoudis, V (CERN) ; Nowak, E (CERN) ; Mason, G (CERN) ; Battistin, M (CERN) ; Czapski, M (CERN) ; Sgobba, S (CERN)
A new beam dump has been designed, which withstands the future proton beam extracted from the Proton Syncrotron Booster (PSB) at CERN, consisting of up to 1E14 protons per pulse at 2 GeV after its upgrade in 2018/2019. In order to be able to efficiently release the deposited heat, the new dump will be made out of a single cylindrical block of a copper alloy and cooled by forced ventilation. [...]
