Availability and luminosity in the Future Circular Electron-Positron Collider (FCC-ee) / Heron, Jack (CERN) ; Blaszkiewicz, Milosz (CERN) ; Felsberger, Lukas (CERN) ; Uythoven, Jan (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN)
The Future Circular Electron-Positron Collider (FCC-ee) is CERN's leading proposal for the next generation of energy-frontier particle accelerators. To reach integrated luminosity goals, it aims to be operational for minimum 80 % of the scheduled 185 physics days each year. [...]

Study of the performance and beam loss limitations during injection of high-intensity LHC proton beams / Salvachua, Belen (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Zamantzas, Christos (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Effinger, Ewald (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN) ; Trad, Georges (CERN) ; Wenninger, Jorg (CERN) et al.
The LHC Injectors Upgrade project at CERN optimized the injection accelerator chain to deliver proton intensities per bunch of 2.3e+11 ppb. Throughout 2023, the LHC was filled with up to 2464 bunches per beam using a hybrid injection scheme, involving up to 236 bunches per injection, with a maximum intensity per bunch of 1.6e+11 ppb. [...]

Simulated impact of the HL-LHC beam on a graphite target / Hjelle, Ingrid (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN ; Rome U.) ; Piccini, Audrey (CERN) ; Wiesner, Christoph (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Heron, John (CERN) ; Pasquali, Michele (CERN)
In the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) era, the intensity of the circulating bunches will increase to 2.2e+11 protons per bunch, almost twice the nominal LHC value. Besides detailed studies of known and new failure cases for HL-LHC, it is also required to investigate failures beyond nominal design. [...]

A public data service for the Beam Interlock Systems at CERN - current status and future plans / Garnier, Jean-Christophe (CERN) ; Barth, Jonas (CERN) ; Galilée, Marc-Antoine (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Buszydlik, Aleksander (CERN) ; Skarhed, Tobias (CERN)
The Beam Interlock System (BIS) is the backbone of the machine protection system in CERN’s accelerator chain, ensuring that the beams are safely transported through the injector chain and circulated in the Large Hadron Collider. A new version of the BIS is currently under development and planned to be deployed in the SPS, LHC and the North Area experimental zone during the Long Shutdown 3 (LS3), while the recently installed BIS in LINAC4 and the PSB will remain in place. [...]

Machine protection perspective on the restart of the large hadron collider after long shutdown 2 / Wiesner, Christoph (CERN) ; Hernalsteens, Cédric (CERN) ; Solfaroli, Matteo (CERN) ; Wenninger, Jorg (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Uythoven, Jan (CERN)
In 2022, the Large Hadron Collider started its third operational run. Following the three-year Long Shutdown 2, a careful re-commissioning of the machine protection system (MPS) took place. [...]

Colorado, Boulder) ; Horanyi, Mihaly (U. Colorado, Boulder) ; Schmidt, Rudiger (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Wiesner, Christoph (CERN) ; Belanger, Philippe (TRIUMF)
We present a laboratory study of photoelectric charging of dust particles and their lofting on a conducting surface in the presence of external electric fields. Insulating particles with diameter <45 μm are dispersed on a conducting surface exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. [...]

Reliability studies for CERN’s new safe machine parameter system / Blaszkiewicz, Milosz (CERN) ; Apollonio, Andrea (CERN) ; Bolton, Samuel (CERN) ; Colinet, Antoine (CERN) ; Romera, Iván (CERN) ; Secondo, Raffaello (CERN) ; Uythoven, Jan (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Felsberger, Lukas (CERN)
The Safe Machine Parameter system (SMP) is a critical part of the machine protection system in CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). It broadcasts safety-critical parameters like beam energy, beam intensity, the beta functions and flags indicating safety levels of the beam to other machine protection elements. [...]
