AWAKE (The Advanced Proton Driven Plasma Wakefield Acceleration Experiment at CERN) stripline BPMs are required to measure the position of the single electron bunch to a position resolution of less than 10 µm rms for electron charge of 100 pC to 1 nC. This paper describes the design, installation and commissioning of a such BPM system developed by TRIUMF (Canada). [...]

New Beam Position Monitors for the CERN LINAC3 to LEIR Ion Beam Transfer Line / Søby, Lars (CERN) ; Baud, Guillaume (CERN) ; Bozzolan, Michele (CERN) ; Scrivens, Richard (CERN)
The ion injection line into the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR) has recently been equipped with nine, new, electrostatic Beam Position Monitors (BPMs) in order to measure and optimize the trajectory of the low intensity ion beams coming from LINAC3. In this paper, we describe the design of the BPM, the low noise charge amplifier mounted directly on the BPM, and the digital acquisition system. [...]

The CERN Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring (ELENA) intended to decelerate anti-protons from the CERN Antiproton Decelerator from 100Mev/c to 13.7MeV/c, has been equipped with an orbit measurement system consisting of 10 horizontal and 10 vertical electrostatic pick-ups. Using charge amplifiers the signals are converted into sum and difference signals that, once digitalized, are down converted to baseband and used to calculate intensity independent beam positions. [...]

Commissioning of the Beam Instrumentation for the Half Sector Test in Linac4 with a 160 MeV H⁻ Beam / Guidoboni, Greta (CERN) ; Allica, Juan (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Focker, Gerrit Jan (CERN) ; Mikulec, Bettina (CERN) ; Navarro Fernandez, Araceli (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Søby, Lars (CERN) ; Zamantzas, Christos (CERN)
In the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project, the Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) will be extensively modified during the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2, 2019-2020) at CERN [1]. This includes a new injector, Linac4, which will provide a 160 MeV H⁻ beam and a complete new injection section for the PSB composed essentially of a chicane and a stripping foil system. [...]

Optimization of the Cryogenic Current Comparator (CCC) for Beam Intensity Measurement / Sieber, Thomas (Darmstadt, GSI) ; De Gersem, Herbert (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch.) ; Fernandes, Miguel (CERN ; Liverpool U.) ; Golm, Jessica (Unlisted, DE) ; Jones, Robert (CERN) ; Kowina, Piotr (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Kurian, Febin (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Marsic, Nicolas (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch.) ; Neubert, Ralf (Unlisted, DE) ; Reeg, Hansjörg (Darmstadt, GSI) et al.
Triggered by the need for current measurement in the nA range for slow extracted beams and for the beams in the storage rings at FAIR and CERN, the idea of the CCC as a current transformer has been revitalized during the last ten years. Compared to the first prototype, developed at GSI in the 90s, the second generation of CCCs is based on the possibility of detailed simulation of superconducting magnetic shielding properties, new nano-crystalline materials for the magnetic ring-cores, and on superior commercially available SQUID systems. The Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring (ELENA) at CERN entered the commissioning phase in November 2016 using H⁻ ions and antiprotons to setup the machine at the different energy plateaus. The low intensities and energy of the ELENA beam generate very weak signals making beam diagnostics very challenging. [...]

The Advanced Proton Driven Plasma Wakefield Acceleration Experiment (AWAKE) is a project at CERN aiming to accelerate an electron bunch in a plasma wakefield driven by a proton bunch. The plasma is induced in a 10 m long rubidium vapor cell using a pulsed Ti:Sapphire laser, with the wakefield formed by a proton bunch from the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). [...]

The construction, installation and initial commissioning of CERN's LINAC4 was completed in 2016 with H⁻ ions successfully accelerated to its top energy of 160 MeV. The accelerator is equipped with a large number of beam diagnostic systems that are essential to monitor, control and optimize the beam parameters. [...]

The beam intensities at the Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring ELENA are too low for standard beam current transformers and, thus, are measured with longitudinal Schottky diagnostics. This method is already successfully used at the Antiproton Decelerator since the commissioning of this machine. [...]
