Measurement of the emittance of accelerated electron bunches at the AWAKE experiment / AWAKE Collaboration
The vertical plane transverse emittance of accelerated electron bunches at the AWAKE experiment at CERN has been determined, using three different methods of data analysis. [...]

Experience with Beam Transfer Function Measurements for Setting-up the Stochastic Cooling System in the CERN Anti-Proton Decelerator (AD) / Rey, Stephane (CERN) ; Bastos, Wilker (CERN) ; Caspers, Fritz (CERN) ; Dupuy, Bruno (CERN) ; Gamba, Davide (CERN) ; Höfle, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Louwerse, Reinier (CERN)
Beam transfer function measurements have regularly been used to set-up the adjustable parameters for stochastic cooling systems. We report on the automation of these measurements at CERN that permit efficient set-up of the cooling loops in the anti-proton decelerator (AD) and enables insight into the bandwidth (nominal frequency range of 850 MHz to 1.7 GHz) of the overall system for the longitudinal, horizontal and vertical cooling at the two different beam momenta of 2 GeV/c and 3.5 GeV/c. Experimental Observation of Motion of Ions in a Resonantly Driven Plasma Wakefield Accelerator / AWAKE Collaboration
We show experimentally that an effect of motion of ions, observed in a plasma-based accelerator, depends inversely on the plasma ion mass. [...]

Hosing of a long relativistic particle bunch in plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
Experimental results show that hosing of a long particle bunch in plasma can be induced by wakefields driven by a short, misaligned preceding bunch. Hosing develops in the plane of misalignment, self-modulation in the perpendicular plane, at frequencies close to the plasma electron frequency, and are reproducible. [...]

Filamentation of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
We show in experiments that a long, underdense, relativistic proton bunch propagating in plasma undergoes the oblique instability, that we observe as filamentation. We determine a threshold value for the ratio between the bunch transverse size and plasma skin depth for the instability to occur. [...]

Development of the Self-Modulation Instability of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
Self-modulation is a beam-plasma instability that is useful to drive large-amplitude wakefields with bunches much longer than the plasma skin depth. We present experimental results showing that, when increasing the ratio between the initial transverse size of the bunch and the plasma skin depth, the instability occurs later along the bunch, or not at all, over a fixed plasma length, because the amplitude of the initial wakefields decreases. [...]

Recommissioning of the CERN AD Stochastic Cooling System in 2021 after Long Shutdown 2 / Höfle, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Carli, Christian (CERN) ; Caspers, Fritz (CERN) ; Dupuy, Bruno (CERN) ; Gamba, Davide (CERN) ; Louwerse, Reinier (CERN) ; Myklebust, Vebjorn Roed (CERN) ; Oliveira, Joao Carlos (CERN) ; Ponce, Laurette (CERN) ; Rey, Stephane (CERN) et al.
The power system of the Stochastic Cooling System of the anti-proton decelerator AD at CERN, installed on top of the shielding blocks of the AD ring, was completely dismantled during the long shutdown 2 (LS2) at the end of the 2018 run in order to gain access to the accelerator for magnet consolidation. At start-up, this required finding and verifying the correct delays for all 48 power amplifiers feeding to the two kickers by means of beam transfer functions for the two cooling plateaus at 3.57 GeV/c and 2 GeV/c. The AWAKE Run 2 programme and beyond / AWAKE Collaboration
Plasma wakefield acceleration is a promising technology to reduce the size of particle accelerators. Use of high energy protons to drive wakefields in plasma has been demonstrated during Run 1 of the AWAKE programme at CERN. [...]

Controlled Growth of the Self-Modulation of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
A long, narrow, relativistic charged particle bunch propagating in plasma is subject to the self-modulation (SM) instability. We show that SM of a proton bunch can be seeded by the wakefields driven by a preceding electron bunch. [...]
