QCD challenges from pp to AA collisions: 4th edition / Altmann, Javira (Monash U.) ; Andres, Carlota (Ecole Polytechnique, CPHT) ; Andronic, Anton (Munster U., ITP) ; Antinori, Federico (INFN, Padua) ; Antonioli, Pietro (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Beraudo, Andrea (INFN, Turin) ; Berti, Eugenio (INFN, Florence) ; Bianchi, Livio (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Boettcher, Thomas (Cincinnati U.) ; Capriotti, Lorenzo (Ferrara U.) et al.
This paper is a write-up of the ideas that were presented, developed and discussed at the fourth International Workshop on QCD Challenges from pp to AA, which took place in February 2023 in Padua, Italy. The goal of the workshop was to focus on some of the open questions in the field of high-energy heavy-ion physics and to stimulate the formulation of concrete suggestions for making progresses on both the experimental and theoretical sides. Isolating perturbative QCD splittings in heavy-ion collisions / Cunqueiro, Leticia (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Pablos, Daniel (INFN, Turin ; Oviedo U. ; ICTEA, Oviedo) ; Soto-Ontoso, Alba (CERN) ; Spousta, Martin (Charles U.) ; Takacs, Adam (Bergen U. ; U. We define a new strategy to scan jet substructure in heavy-ion collisions. The scope is multifold: (i) test the dominance of vacuum jet dynamics at early times, (ii) capture the transition from coherent to incoherent jet energy loss, and (iii) study elastic scatterings in the medium, which are either hard and perturbative or soft and responsible for jet thermalisation. [...]

sPHENIX is a next-generation detector experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, designed for a broad set of jet and heavy-flavor probes of the Quark-Gluon Plasma created in heavy ion collisions. In anticipation of the commissioning and first data-taking of the detector in 2023, a RIKEN-BNL Research Center (RBRC) workshop was organized to collect theoretical input and identify compelling aspects of the physics program. Pushing forward jet substructure measurements in heavy-ion collisions / Pablos, Daniel (INFN, Turin) ; Soto-Ontoso, Alba (IPhT, Saclay ; CERN)
Energetic jets that traverse the quark-gluon plasma created in heavy-ion collisions serve as excellent probes to study this new state of deconfined QCD matter. Presently, however, our ability to achieve a crisp theoretical interpretation of the crescent number of jet observables measured in experiments is hampered by the presence of selection biases. [...]

Jet suppression from small to large radius / Pablos, Daniel (speaker) (University of Bergen)
The angular dependence of jet suppression encodes key information about the process of energy and momentum hydrodynamization, and for this reason can be used to greatly improve our understanding of fundamental aspects of the jet/QGP interaction. In this work we study jet suppression from small to very large radius, for low and very high energy jets at the LHC and RHIC [...]

A Comprehensive Analysis of Jet Quenching via a Hybrid Strong/Weak Coupling Model for Jet-Medium Interactions / Casalderrey-Solana, Jorge (Barcelona U., ECM ; ICC, Barcelona U. ; Oxford U., Theor. Phys.) ; Gulhan, Doga Can (MIT, LNS) ; Milhano, José Guilherme (Lisbon, CENTRA ; CERN) ; Pablos, Daniel (Barcelona U., ECM ; ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Rajagopal, Krishna (MIT, LNS)
Within a hybrid strong/weak coupling model for jets in strongly coupled plasma, we explore jet modifications in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. Our approach merges the perturbative dynamics of hard jet evolution with the strongly coupled dynamics which dominates the soft exchanges between the fast partons in the jet shower and the strongly coupled plasma itself. The angular structure of jet quenching within a hybrid strong/weak coupling model / Casalderrey-Solana, Jorge (Oxford U., Theor. Phys.) ; Gulhan, Doga Can (CERN) ; Milhano, José Guilherme (LIP, Lisbon ; CERN) ; Pablos, Daniel (Barcelona U. ; ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Rajagopal, Krishna (MIT, Cambridge, CTP)
Building upon the hybrid strong/weak coupling model for jet quenching, we incorporate and study the effects of transverse momentum broadening and medium response of the plasma to jets on a variety of observables. For inclusive jet observables, we find little sensitivity to the strength of broadening. [...]

Angular Structure of Jet Quenching Within a Hybrid Strong/Weak Coupling Model / Casalderrey-Solana, Jorge (Oxford U., Theor. Within the context of a hybrid strong/weak coupling model of jet quenching, we study the modification of the angular distribution of the energy within jets in heavy ion collisions, as partons within jet showers lose energy and get kicked as they traverse the strongly coupled plasma produced in the collision. To describe the dynamics transverse to the jet axis, we add the effects of transverse momentum broadening into our hybrid construction, introducing a parameter $K\equiv \hat q/T^3$ that governs its magnitude. Jet formation and interference in a thin QCD medium / Casalderrey-Solana, Jorge (Oxford U., Theor. Phys. ; Barcelona U., ECM ; ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Pablos, Daniel (Barcelona U., ECM ; ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Tywoniuk, Konrad (Barcelona U., ECM ; ICC, Barcelona U. ; CERN)
In heavy-ion collisions, an abundant production of high-energy QCD jets allows to study how these multiparticle sprays are modified as they pass through the quark-gluon plasma. In order to shed new light on this process, we compute the inclusive two-gluon rate off a hard quark propagating through a color deconfined medium at first order in medium opacity. [...]

We explore a novel hybrid model containing both strong and weak coupling physics for high energy jets traversing a deconfined medium. This model is based on supplementing a perturbative DGLAP shower with strongly coupled energy loss rate. [...]
