An 8-Channel ASD in 130 nm CMOS for ATLAS Muon Drift Tube Readout at the HL-LHC
/ Fras, Markus (Dresden, Max Planck Inst.) ; Abovyan, Sergey (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Danielyan, Varuzhan (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Kroha, Hubert (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Nowak, Sebastian (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Richter, Robert (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Weber, Bradley (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Zhao, Yazhou (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Baschirotto, Andrea (Milan Bicocca U.) ; De Matteis, Marcello (Milan Bicocca U.) et al.
Spatial resolution and efficiency of the ATLAS muon Monitored Drift Tubes (MDT) depend on drift time resolution, noise levels, and accurate threshold setting. A new 130~nm readout device is developed and optimized for the required time resolution, to guarantee rise times below 10~ns with acceptable time slewing effects. [...]

Hardware Implementation of a Fast Algorithm for the Reconstruction of Muon Tracks in ATLAS Muon Drift-Tube Chambers for the First-Level Muon Trigger at the HL-LHC
/ Abovyan, Sergey (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Danielyan, Varuzhan (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Fras, Markus (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Gadow, Philipp (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Kortner, Oliver (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Kortner, Sandra (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Kroha, Hubert (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Müller, Felix (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Nowak, Sebastian (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Richter, Robert (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) et al.
The High-Luminosity LHC will provide the unique opportunity to explore the nature of physics beyond the Standard Model of strong and electroweak interactions. Highly selective first level triggers are essential for the physics programme of the ATLAS experiment at the HL-LHC where the instantaneous luminosity will exceed the LHC Run 1 instantaneous luminosity by almost an order of magnitude. The delivery of clinical beams for patient treatment at the MedAustron Ion Therapy Center requires extensive accelerator performance verifications, which are performed in several steps. In first instance, the key parameters of the beam delivered to the irradiation rooms (beam position, spot size, energy and intensity) are verified via measurements performed with beam diagnostic devices distributed along the accelerator. The synchrotron-based MedAustron accelerator in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, has seen the first clinical beam and has been certified as a medical accelerator in December 2016. This represented a major milestone for the facility whose original design originated more than a decade ago and construction started four years ago. [...]

Optimization of the front-end electronics of Drift Tube chambers for high-rate operation
/ Schwegler, Philipp (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Abovyan, Sergey (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Danielyan, Varuzhan (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Fink, David (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Fras, Markus (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Kortner, Oliver (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Kroha, Hubert (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Nowak, Sebastian (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Ott, Sebastian (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Richter, Robert (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) et al.
Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) chambers account for the vast majority of precision tracking chambers in the Muon Spectrometer of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), where they have to sustain unprecedentedly high background radiation. New, so-called sMDT chambers with reduced tube diameter have been developed for operation at even higher rates, expected after the upgrade of the LHC to high luminosities (HL-LHC). [...]

Study of ordered hadron chains with the ATLAS detector
/ ATLAS Collaboration
The analysis of the momentum difference between charged hadrons in high-energy proton-proton collisions is performed in order to study coherent particle production. The observed correlation pattern agrees with a model of a helical QCD string fragmenting into a chain of ground-state hadrons. [...]
