New insights on fission of $^{235}$U induced by high energy neutrons / n_TOF Collaboration
The $^{235}$U(n,f) reaction cross section was measured relative to neutron-proton elastic scattering for the first time in the energy region from 10 MeV to 440 MeV at the CERN n_TOF facility, extending the upper limit of the only previous measurement in the literature by more than 200 MeV. [...]

Motivated by a renewed interest in hypernucleus studies, the strangeness degree of freedom was implemented in the intranuclear cascade model INCL. This model takes care of the first stage of reactions between a nucleon (or a light cluster) and a nucleus at energies from a few tens of MeV up to a few GeV. [...]

$^{12}$C ion therapy has had growing interest in recent years for its excellent dose conformity. However at therapeutic energies, which can be as high as 400 MeV/u, carbon ions produce secondary fragments. [...]

Geant4 simulation of the n_TOF-EAR2 neutron beam: Characteristics and prospects / Lerendegui-Marco, J (Seville U.) ; Lo Meo, S (ENEA, Bologna ; INFN, Bologna) ; Guerrero, C (Seville U.) ; Cortés-Giraldo, M A (Seville U.) ; Massimi, C (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Quesada, J M (Seville U.) ; Barbagallo, M (INFN, Bari) ; Colonna, N (INFN, Bari) ; Mancusi, D (Saclay) ; Mingrone, F (Bologna U.) et al. /n_TOF
The characteristics of the neutron beam at the new n_TOF-EAR2 facility have been simulated with the Geant4 code with the aim of providing useful data for both the analysis and planning of the upcoming measurements. The spatial and energy distributions of the neutrons, the resolution function and the in-beam $ \gamma$ -ray background have been studied in detail and their implications in the forthcoming experiments have been discussed. GEANT4 simulations of the n_TOF spallation source and their benchmarking / Lo Meo, S (ENEA, Bologna ; INFN, Bologna) ; Cortés-Giraldo, M A (Seville U.) ; Massimi, C (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Lerendegui-Marco, J (Seville U.) ; Barbagallo, M (INFN, Bari) ; Colonna, N (INFN, Bari) ; Guerrero, C (Seville U.) ; Mancusi, D (IRFU, SPP, Saclay) ; Mingrone, F (INFN, Bologna) ; Quesada, J M (Seville U.) et al. /n_TOF
Neutron production and transport in the spallation target of the n_TOF facility at CERN has been simulated with GEANT4. The results obtained with different models of high-energy nucleon-nucleus interaction have been compared with the measured characteristics of the neutron beam, in particular the flux and its dependence on neutron energy, measured in the first experimental area. On the role of secondary pions in spallation targets / Mancusi, Davide (CEA, DEN, Saclay, SERMA) ; Lo Meo, Sergio (ENEA, Bologna ; INFN, Bologna) ; Colonna, Nicola (INFN, Bari) ; Boudard, Alain (IRFU, Saclay) ; Cortés-Giraldo, Miguel Antonio (Seville U.) ; Cugnon, Joseph (Liege U.) ; David, Jean-Christophe (IRFU, Saclay) ; Leray, Sylvie (IRFU, Saclay) ; Lerendegui-Marco, Jorge (Seville U.) ; Massimi, Cristian (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) et al.
We use particle-transport simulations to show that secondary pions play a crucial role for the development of the hadronic cascade and therefore for the production of neutrons and photons from thick spallation targets. In particular, for the n_TOF lead spallation target, irradiated with 20-GeV/c protons, neutral pions are involved in the production of ~90% of the high-energy photons; charged pions participate in ~40% of the integral neutron yield. The nucleosynthesis of elements beyond iron is dominated by neutron captures in the s and r processes. However, 32 stable, proton-rich isotopes cannot be formed during those processes, because they are shielded from the s-process flow and r-process beta-decay chains. [...]
