/ Blomley, Edmund (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Müller, Anke-Susanne (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Härer, B (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Huttel, Erhard (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Zimmermann, Frank (CERN) ; Keintzel, Jacqueline (CERN) ; Steinmann, Johannes (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Gethmann, Julian (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Ruprecht, Robert (KIT, Karlsruhe)
The Karlsruhe research accelerator KARA offers a setup to measure the beam energy with resonant spin depolarization. The depolarization is excited by the stripline kickers of the bunch-by-bunch feedback system and the resonant frequency is measured via change in Touschek lifetime. [...]

For the accelerator-based future of high energy physics at the energy frontier, CERN started to investigate a 92 km circumference Future Circular Collider (FCC), as e⁺/e⁻ collider the FCC-ee will operate at beam energies up to 182.5 GeV. Beside the machine operational aspects, beam instrumentation will play a key role in verifying and optimizing the machine to achieve the ambitious beam parameters and quality. [...]

Magnetic Characterization of a Superconducting Transverse Gradient Undulator for Compact Laser Wakefield Accelerator-Driven FELs
/ Damminsek, Kantaphon (KIT, Karlsruhe, TTP) ; Bernhard, Axel (KIT, Karlsruhe, TTP) ; Cha, Hyuk Jin (KIT, Karlsruhe, TTP) ; Grau, Andreas (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Müller, Anke-Susanne (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Ning, Maisui (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Richter, Sebastian (CERN) ; Rossmanith, Robert (DESY) ; Tong, Yimin (KIT, Karlsruhe)
A transverse gradient undulator (TGU) is a key component compensating for the relatively large energy spread of Laser Wakefield Accelerator (LWFA)-generated electron beams for realizing a compact Free Electron Laser (FEL). A superconducting TGU with 40 periods has been fabricated at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). [...]

Status and Powering Test Results of HTS Undulator Coils at 77 K for Compact FEL Designs

The production of low emittance positron beams for future linear and circular lepton colliders, like CLIC or FCC-ee, requires high-field damping wigglers. Just as compact free-electron lasers (FELs) require high-field but as well short-period undulators to emit high energetic, coherent photons. [...]

Bending Radius Limits of Different Coated REBCO Conductor Tapes - An Experimental Investigation with Regard to HTS Undulators

Compact FELs require short-period, high-field undulators in combination with compact accelerator structures to produce coherent light up to X-rays. Likewise, for the production of low emittance positron beams for future lepton colliders, like CLIC or FCC-ee, high-field damping wigglers are required. [...]

The Future Circular Collider Study
/ Zimmermann, Frank (CERN) ; Benedikt, Michael (CERN) ; Müller, Anke-Susanne (KIT, Karlsruhe)
At the end of 2018, a large worldwide collaboration, with contributors from more than 350 institutes completed the conceptual design of the Future Circular Collider (FCC), a ~100 km accelerator infrastructure linked to the existing CERN complex, that would open up the way to the post-LHC era in particle physics. We present an overview of the two main accelerator options considered in the design study, namely the lepton collider (FCC-ee), serving as highest-luminosity Higgs and electroweak factory, and the 100-TeV energy-frontier hadron collider (FCC-hh), along with the ongoing technological R&D; efforts and the planned next steps. Characterisation of the radiation hardness of cryogenic bypass diodes for the HL-LHC inner triplet quadrupole circuit
/ Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Bernhard, Axel (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Cangialosi, Chiara (CERN) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) ; D'Angelo, Giorgio (CERN) ; Danzeca, Salvatore (CERN) ; Denz, Reiner (CERN) ; Favre, Mathieu (CERN) ; Garcia Alia, Ruben (CERN) ; Hagedorn, Dietrich (CERN) et al.
The powering layout of the new HL-LHC Nb$_3$Sn triplet circuits is the use of cryogenic bypass diodes, where the diodes are located inside an extension to the magnet cryostat, operated in superfluid helium and exposed to radiation. Therefore, the radiation hardness of different type of bypass diodes has been tested at low temperatures in CERN’s CHARM irradiation facility during the operational year 2018. [...]

The superconducting magnets used in high energy particle accelerators such as CERN’s LHC can be impacted by the circulating beam in case of specific failure cases. This leads to interaction of the beam particles with the magnet components, like the superconducting coils, directly or via secondary particle showers. [...]
