There is now solid experimental evidence of at least one supernova explosion within 100 pc of Earth within the last few million years, from measurements of the short-lived isotope 60Fe in widespread deep-ocean samples, as well as in the lunar regolith and cosmic rays. [...]

Experiments with neutron beams for the astrophysical s process
/ Lederer, C (Frankfurt U. ; Vienna U. ; Edinburgh U.) ; Altstadt, S (Frankfurt U.) ; Andrzejewski, J (Lodz U.) ; Audouin, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Barbagallo, M (INFN, Bari) ; Bécares, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Bečvář, F (Charles U.) ; Belloni, F (Saclay) ; Berthoumieux, E (Saclay ; CERN) ; Billowes, J (Manchester U.) et al.
Neutron capture cross sections are the key nuclear physics input to study the slow neutron capture process, which is responsible for forming about half of the elemental abundances above Fe. Stellar neutron capture cross section can be measured by the time-of-flight technique, or by activation. [...]

/ Giubrone, G (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Domingo-Pardo, C (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Taín, J L (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Lederer, C (Vienna U. ; Frankfurt U.) ; Altstadt, S (Frankfurt U.) ; Andrzejewski, J (U. Fe-54 and Fe-57 are stable iron isotopes, which play an important role in the nucleosynthesis of the slow neutron capture process (s process). In addition, these nuclei are present in many structural materials, and therefore, the knowledge of their neutron capture cross sections is of importance for reactor design studies. [...]

Measurement of the $^{241}$Am and the $^{243}$Am Neutron Capture Cross Sections at the n_TOF Facility at CERN
/ Mendoza, E (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Cano-Ott, D (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Guerrero, C (CERN) ; Altstadt, S (Frankfurt U.) ; Andrzejewski, J (U. Lodz (main)) ; Audouin, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Barbagallo, M (INFN, Bari) ; Bécares, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Bečvář, F (Charles U., Prague (main)) ; Belloni, F (Saclay) et al.
The capture cross sections of $^{241}$Am and $^{243}$Am were measured at the n_TOF facility at CERN in the epithermal energy range with a BaF2 Total Absorption Calorimeter. A preliminary analysis of the $^{241}$Am and a complete analysis of the $^{243}$Am measurement, including the data reduction and the resonance analysis, have been performed..

High-precision Measurement of the 238U(n,γ) Cross Section with the Total Absorption Calorimeter (TAC) at n_TOF, CERN
/ Wright, T (U. Manchester (main)) ; Guerrero, C (U. Manchester (main) ; CERN) ; Billowes, J (U. Manchester (main)) ; Ware, T (U. Manchester (main)) ; Cano-Ott, D (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Mendoza, E (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Massimi, C (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Mingrone, F (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Gunsing, F (Saclay) ; Berthoumieux, E (Saclay) et al.
The neutron capture cross section of U-238 is fundamental to the design and operation of current reactors and future fast nuclear reactors, and thus must be measured to a high level of accuracy. An experiment has been performed at the CERN n TOF facility using a 4 pi Total Absorption Calorimeter (TAC) to measure the capture cross section in the resolved resonance region between 1 eV and 25 keV. The neutron time-of-flight facility n\_TOF is operating at CERN (Switzerland) since 2001, having started in 2009 a new campaign with an upgraded spallation target. The ambitious program carried out includes a large number of experiments in nuclear technology, astrophysics, basic physics, detector development and medical applications. [...]

Neutron Capture Reactions on Fe and Ni Isotopes for the Astrophysical s-process
/ Lederer, C (Vienna U. ; Frankfurt U.) ; Giubrone, G (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Massimi, C (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Žugec, P (Zagreb U., Phys. Neutron capture cross sections in the keV neutron energy region are the key nuclear physics input to study the astrophysical slow neutron capture process. In the past years, a series of neutron capture cross section measurements has been performed at the neutron time-of-flight facility n\_TOF at CERN focussing on the Fe/Ni mass region. [...]

Measurement of the Neutron Capture Cross Section of the Fissile Isotope 235U with the CERN n_TOF Total Absorption Calorimeter and a Fission Tagging Based on Micromegas Detectors
/ Balibrea, J ; Mendoza, E ; Cano-Ott, D ; Guerrero, C ; Berthoumieux, E ; Altstadt, S ; Andrzejewski, J ; Audouin, L ; Barbagallo, M ; Bécares, V et al.
Current and future nuclear technologies require more accurate nuclear data on (n,γ) cross sections and the α-ratios of fissile isotopes. Their measurement presents several difficulties, mainly related to the strong fission γ-ray background competing with the weaker γ-ray cascades used as the experimental signature of the (n,γ) process. Actual and future nuclear technologies require more accurate nuclear data on the (n, $\gamma$) cross sections and $\alpha$-ratios of fissile isotopes. Their measurement presents several difficulties, mainly related to the strong fission $\gamma$-ray background competing with the weaker $\gamma$-ray cascades used as the experimental signature of the (n, $\gamma$) process.
