Investigations on NbTi superconducting racetrack coils under pulsed-current excitations / Abusaif, F (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Bernhard, A (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Bründermann, E (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Gancarcik, D (KIT, Karlsruhe ; CERN) ; Glamann, N (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Grau, A (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Saez de Jauregui, D (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Müller, A-S (KIT, Karlsruhe)
One of the key issues in the technology of superconductors is the protection against quenches. When designing a superconductor as a magnet, a coil or even current leads, the design should be made such that the superconductor withstands all operational conditions as fast discharges, pulsed loads or even rapid transient background fields.Computational modeling of pulsed-current characterization in a self-field NbTi racetrack sample coil has been performed using the finite element modelling software Opera as a step towards understanding the thermal and electromagnetic processes during a quench. An experiment to study damage caused by the impact of 440 GeV/c protons on sample superconducting racetrack coils made from NbTi and Nb3Sn strands was recently carried out at CERN's HiRadMat facility. This paper reports on the detailed Monte Carlo simulations performed with FLUKA and Geant4 to evaluate the energy deposition of the 440 GeV/c proton beam on the sample coils positioned in the experimental setup. The damage mechanisms and limits of superconducting accelerator magnets caused by the impact of high-intensity particle beams have been the subject of extensive studies at CERN in the recent years. Recently, an experiment with dedicated racetrack coils made of Nb-Ti and Nb$_3$Sn strands was performed in CERN’s HiRadMat facility. [...]

High-Temperature Superconducting Undulator Prototype Coils for Compact Free-Electron Lasers / Richter, S C (CERN ; KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Bernhard, A (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Grau, A W (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; de Jauregui, D Saez (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Müller, A S (KIT, Karlsruhe)
Short-period and high-field undulators are crucial for the production of coherent light up to X-rays in compact free-electron lasers (FELs). Besides, future colliders like CLIC or FCC-ee demand high-field damping wigglers to reach a low beam emittance. [...]

Magnetic Characterization of a Superconducting Transverse Gradient Undulator for Compact Laser Wakefield Accelerator-Driven FELs / Damminsek, Kantaphon (KIT, Karlsruhe, TTP) ; Bernhard, Axel (KIT, Karlsruhe, TTP) ; Cha, Hyuk Jin (KIT, Karlsruhe, TTP) ; Grau, Andreas (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Müller, Anke-Susanne (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Ning, Maisui (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Richter, Sebastian (CERN) ; Rossmanith, Robert (DESY) ; Tong, Yimin (KIT, Karlsruhe)
A transverse gradient undulator (TGU) is a key component compensating for the relatively large energy spread of Laser Wakefield Accelerator (LWFA)-generated electron beams for realizing a compact Free Electron Laser (FEL). A superconducting TGU with 40 periods has been fabricated at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). [...]

Synchrotron radiation (SR) originated at superconducting bending magnets is known to be at the origin of several beam detrimental effects related to vacuum instabilities. One of the major challenges in the design of the vacuum beam pipes of high-energy hadron colliders is the SR coping strategy. [...]

Modeling Double Parton Scattering at LHC / Pancheri, Giulia (INFN, Naples) ; Grau, Agnes (Granada U., Theor. Phys. Astrophys.) ; Pacetti, Simone (Perugia U.) ; Srivastava, Yogendra N. (Perugia U.)
We examine present data for double parton scattering at LHC and discuss their energy dependence from its earliest measurements at the ISR. Different models for the effective cross-section are considered and their behavior studied for a variety of selected final states. [...]

The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) will require ultralow emittance electron and positron beams. Such emittance will be achieved by radiative damping in the CLIC damping rings that will be realized by a use of high-field short-period superconducting damping wigglers. [...]
