Spectral synthesis of multimode lasers to the Fourier limit in integrated Fabry–Perot diamond resonators
/ Granados, Eduardo (CERN) ; Granados, Camilo ; Ahmed, Rizwan (CERN) ; Chrysalidis, Katerina (CERN) ; Fedosseev, Valentin N (CERN) ; Marsh, Bruce A (CERN) ; Wilkins, Shane G (CERN) ; Mildren, Richard P (Macquarie U.) ; Spence, David J (Macquarie U.)
Fourier-limited nanosecond pulses featuring narrow spectral bandwidths are required for applications in spectroscopy,
sensing, and quantum optics. Here, we demonstrate a direct and simple route for the generation of single-frequency light
relying on phonon-resonant Raman interactions within a monolithic diamond resonator. [...]

We report on the generation and tuning of single-frequency laser light in a monolithic Fabry–Pérot diamond Raman resonator operating in the visible spectral range. The device was capable of squeezing the linewidth of a broad multi-mode nanosecond pump laser ([Formula: see text] 7.2 ± 0.9 GHz at [Formula: see text] 450 nm) to a nearly Fourier-limited single axial mode Stokes pulse ([Formula: see text] 114 ± 20 MHz at [Formula: see text] 479 nm). Design and commissioning of an ion guide system for In-Gas Laser Ionization and Spectroscopy experiments

Radio-frequency (RF) ion guides, also known as Linear Paul Traps, are powerful devices to efficiently transport ion beams from high to low pressure regions while keeping good ion optical properties. A set of ion guides comprising three different RF quadrupole (RFQ) structures has been designed using ion-trajectory simulations to improve the performance of the In-Gas Laser Ionizations and Spectroscopy (IGLIS) technique currently under development at KU Leuven. Large Shape Staggering in Neutron-Deficient Bi Isotopes
/ Barzakh, A (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Andreyev, A N (JAEA, Ibaraki ; York U., England) ; Raison, C (York U., England) ; Cubiss, J G (York U., England) ; Van Duppen, P (Leuven U.) ; Péru, S (CEA DAM) ; Hilaire, S (CEA DAM) ; Goriely, S (Brussels U., IAA) ; Andel, B (Comenius U.) ; Antalic, S (Comenius U.) et al.
The changes in the mean-square charge radius (relative to $^{209}$Bi), magnetic dipole, and electric quadrupole moments of $^{187,188,189,191}$Bi were measured using the in-source resonance-ionization spectroscopy technique at ISOLDE (CERN). A large staggering in radii was found in $^{187,188,189}$Big, manifested by a sharp radius increase for the ground state of $^{188}$Bi relative to the neighboring $^{187,189}$Big. [...]

Single-longitudinal-mode pumped pulsed-dye amplifier for high-resolution laser spectroscopy
/ Verlinde, M (Leuven U.) ; Ferrer, R (Leuven U.) ; Claessens, A (Leuven U.) ; Granados, C A (Leuven U. ; CERN) ; Kraemer, S (Leuven U.) ; Kudryavtsev, Yu (Leuven U.) ; Li, D (Unlisted, DE) ; Van den Bergh, P (Leuven U.) ; Van Duppen, P (Leuven U.) ; Verstraelen, E (Leuven U.)
The In-Gas-jet Laser Ionization and Spectroscopy (IGLIS) technique relies on narrow-bandwidth, high-peak-power, short-pulse-length (≈10 ns), and high-repetition-rate laser pulses to probe, precisely and efficiently, the hyperfine structure of medium-heavy and heavy isotopes, embedded in a supersonic jet. The power and repetition rate requirements of the laser system are met by combining ≈100 W, 8 ns pulse width, 10 kHz commercial Nd:YAG pump lasers with a single-mode continuous wave seeded Pulsed Dye Amplifier (PDA). $β$ -delayed fission of isomers in $^{188}$Bi

$β$-delayed fission ($β$DF) decay of a low-spin (ls) and a high-spin (hs) isomer in $^{188}$Bi was studied at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. Isomer-selective laser ionization and time gating were employed to investigate each isomer separately and their $β$DF partial half-lives were determined: $T_{1/2\mathrm{p},β\mathrm{DF}} (^{188}\mathrm{Bi^{ls}})=5.6(8)×10^3$ s and $T_{1/2\mathrm{p},β\mathrm{DF}} (^{188}\mathrm{Bi^{hs}})=1.7(6)×10^3$ s. One of the most important properties influencing the chemical behavior of an element is the electron affinity (EA). Among the remaining elements with unknown EA is astatine, where one of its isotopes, $^{211}$At, is remarkably well suited for targeted radionuclide therapy of cancer. [...]
