The Ion Accelerator Complex, composed of a linear accelerator (Linac3) and a chain of synchrotrons (Low Energy Ion Ring: LEIR, Proton Synchrotron: PS, Super Proton Synchrotron: SPS and the Large Hadron Collider: LHC) will operate oxygen ion beams for Oxygen–Oxygen (O–O) and proton–Oxygen (p–O) collisions in the LHC in Run 3. Demonstration of non-local crystal shadowing at the CERN SPS

The main SPS users are the experiments installed in North experimental Area (NA) which are served with a continuous 4.8 s long spill of protons and heavy ions. A third-integer resonant slow extraction is used to provide a uniform, long spill. [...]

Advancing the CERN proton synchrotron multiturn extraction towards the high-intensity proton beams frontier
/ Huschauer, A (CERN) ; Bartosik, H (CERN) ; Cettour Cave, S (CERN) ; Coly, M (CERN) ; Cotte, D (CERN) ; Damerau, H (CERN) ; Di Giovanni, G P (CERN) ; Gilardoni, S (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, M (CERN) ; Kain, V (CERN) et al.
Complementary to the physics research at the LHC, several fixed-target facilities receive beams from the LHC injector complex. To serve the fixed-target physics programme at the super proton synchrotron, high-intensity proton beams from the proton synchrotron are extracted using the multiturn extraction technique based on trapping parts of the beam in stable resonance islands. [...]

Identification and Removal of SPS Aperture Limitations

The CERN SPS (Super Proton Synchrotron) serves as LHC injector and provides beam for the North Area fixed target experiments. Since the 2016 run automated local aperture scans have been performed with the main focus on the vertical plane where limitations typically arise due to the flat vacuum chambers in most SPS elements. Performance of the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR) with Xenon beams

In 2017 the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring demonstrated once more the feasibility of injecting, accumulating, cooling and accelerating a new nuclei, $^{129}$Xe${39+}$. The operation of this new ion species started at the beginning of March with the start up of the xenon ion source and the Linac3. [...]

Lifetime and Beam Losses Studies of Partially Strip Ions in the SPS ($^{129}$Xe$^{39+}$)

The CERN multipurpose Gamma Factory proposal relies on using Partially Stripped Ion (PSI) beams, instead of electron beams, as the drivers of its light source. If such beams could be successfully stored in the LHC ring, fluxes of the order of $10^{17}$ photons/s, in the $\gamma$-ray energy domain of $1 \leq \rm{E}_{\gamma} \leq 400$ MeV could be achieved.
