The upgrade of the ALICE TPC with GEMs and continuous readout
/ ALICE TPC Collaboration
The upgrade of the ALICE TPC will allow the experiment to cope with the high interaction rates foreseen for the forthcoming Run 3 and Run 4 at the CERN LHC. In this article, we describe the design of new readout chambers and front-end electronics, which are driven by the goals of the experiment. [...]

Prototype with the basic architecture for the CBM-TOF inner wall tested in close to real conditions
/ Petriş, M ; Bartoş, D ; Caragheorgheopol, G ; Constantin, F ; Petrovici, M ; Rădulescu, L ; Simion, V ; Deppner, I ; Herrmann, N ; Simon, C et al.
Two dimensional position sensitive timing MGMSRPC prototypes were developed for the low polar angles of the CBM - TOF wall. Four MGMSRPC counters were arranged in a staggered geometrical configuration along the z direction, with overlap along and across the strips, in order to define a basic architecture for the inner zone of the CBM-TOF wall. Multi-gap RPC prototypes with readout on a multi-strip electrode were developed for the small polar angle region of the CBM-TOF subdetector, the most demanding zone in terms of granularity and counting rate. The prototypes are based on low resistivity ($\sim$10$^{10}$ $\Omega$cm) glass electrodes for performing in high counting rate environment. [...]

Updated DIRAC spectrometer at CERN PS for the investigation of ππ and πK atoms
/ PS212 collaboration
The DIRAC spectrometer installed at CERN PS was redesigned and upgraded in order to study simultaneously Aππ and AπK atoms, namely the bound states of π+π–, and π+K–, π–K+ mesons. The detector system which is able to accept a high intensity beam such as 2 - 6 × 1011 primary protons per second, the electronics and the data-acquisition system adapted to handle very large amount of data actually allowed to identify successfully π, K, p, e and µ and to give the possibility to select π-π and π-K pairs in the off-line analysis. High counting rate, two-dimensional position sensitive timing RPC

(Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Petris, M (Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Simion, V (Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Bartos, D (Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Caragheorgheopol, G (Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Deppner, I (Heidelberg U.) ; Adamczewski-Musch, J (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Linev, S (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Williams, MCS (INFN, Bologna) ; Loizeau, P (Heidelberg U.) et al.
Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) are widely employed as muon trigger systems at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments. Their large detector volume and the use of a relatively expensive gas mixture make a closed-loop gas circulation unavoidable. [...]
