Commissioning of ALPS, the New Beam Position Monitor System of CERN’s Super Proton Synchrotron / Boccardi, Andrea (CERN) ; Albertone, Joel (CERN) ; Barros Marin, Manoel (CERN) ; Bogey, Thierry (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Li, Kevin S B (CERN) ; Malinowska, Patrycja A (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Topaloudis, Athanasios (CERN) ; Wendt, Manfred (CERN)
The Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is both, the final machine in the pre-accelerator chain of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, and a machine providing several experiments with proton and ion beams. In the framework of CERN’s LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project, aimed at improving the performances of the pre-accelerators in view of the high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC, the Beam Position Monitor (BPM) system of the SPS was redesigned during Run 2 of the LHC and deployed during the subsequent Long Shutdown 2 (LS2). Progress with Long-Range Beam-Beam Compensation Studies for High Luminosity LHC / Rossi, Adriana (CERN) ; Aberle, Oliver (CERN) ; Albertone, Joel (CERN) ; Barnyakov, Alexey (Novosibirsk, IYF) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Boccard, Christian (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Cattenoz, Gregory (CERN) ; Delaup, Yorick (CERN) ; Fartoukh, Stephane (CERN) et al.
Long-range beam-beam (LRBB) interactions can be a source of emittance growth and beam losses in the LHC during physics and will become even more relevant with the smaller '* and higher bunch intensities foreseen for the High Luminosity LHC upgrade (HL-LHC), in particular if operated without crab cavities. Both beam losses and emittance growth could be mitigated by compensat-ing the non-linear LRBB kick with a correctly placed current carrying wire. [...]

Radiation Resistance testing of commercial components for the new SPS Beam Position Measurement System / Deplano, C (CERN) ; Albertone, J (CERN) ; Bogey, T (CERN) ; Gonzalez, J L (CERN) ; Savioz, J J (CERN)
A new Front-End (FE) electronics is under development for the SPS Multi Orbit POsition System (MOPOS). To cover the large dynamic range of beam intensities (70 dB) to be measured in the SPS, the beam position monitor signals are processed using logarithmic amplifiers. [...]

Aperture Restriction Localisation in the LHC Arcs using an RF Mole and the LHC Beam Position Measurement System / Albertone, J (CERN) ; Bartolome-Jimenez, S (CERN) ; Boccard, C (CERN) ; Bogey, T (CERN) ; Borowiec, P (Cracow, INP) ; Calvo, E (CERN) ; Caspers, Friedhelm (CERN) ; Gasior, M (CERN) ; González, J L (CERN) ; Jenninger, B (CERN) et al.
Ensuring that the two 27km beam pipes of the LHC do not contain aperture restrictions is of utmost importance. Most of the ring is composed of continuous cryostats, so any intervention to remove aperture restrictions when the machine is at its operating temperature of 1.9K will require a substantial amount of time.
