A high-pulse-current photoinjector followed by a short high-gradient X-band linac and a Fabry-Pérot enhancement cavity are considered as a driver for a compact Inverse Compton Scattering (ICS) source. Using a high-power ultra-short pulse laser operating in burst mode in a Fabry-Pérot enhancement cavity, we show that outcoming photons with a total flux over 10$^{13}$ and energies in the MeV range are achievable. The status of commissioning of the electron injector intended for the next phase of the proton driven wakefield experiment (AWAKE) is presented, showing first experimental results from operating the brazing-free electron gun. A High-Energy and High-Intensity Inverse Compton Scattering Source Based on CompactLight Technology / Musat, Vlad (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; D'Auria, Gerardo (Sincrotrone Trieste)
An inverse Compton scattering source based on the CompactLight injector and capable of producing MeV gamma-rays with a brilliance several orders of magnitude larger than existing sources is proposed. The CompactLight injector can operate at a bunch repetition rate of 1 kHz, with trains of 50 bunches and a bunch spacing of 5 ns, giving a maximum total flux of 8.62 × 1011 photons/s. [...]
