Each of the two proton beams in the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) will carry a total energy of 700 MJ. One concern for machine protection is the energy stored in the transverse beam halo, estimated to potentially reach up to 5% of the total stored energy. [...]

Bent crystals can deflect charged particles by trapping them within the potential well generated by neighboring crystalline planes and forcing them to follow the curvature of the crystal itself. This property has been extensively studied over the past decade at the CERN accelerator complex, as well as in other laboratories, for a variety of applications, ranging from beam collimation to beam extraction and in-beam fixed target experiments. One key aspect of accelerator optimization is to maximize the dynamic aperture (DA) of a ring. Given the number of adjustable parameters and the compute-intensity of DA simulations, this task can benefit significantly from efficient search algorithms of the available parameter space. [...]

A Muon Collider represents a very interesting possibility for a future machine to explore the energy frontier in particle physics. However, to reach the needed luminosity, beam intensities of the order of 10⁹–10¹² muons per bunch are needed. [...]

Release of Crystal Routine for Multi-Turn Proton Simulations within SixTrack v5 / D'Andrea, Marco (CERN) ; Mereghetti, Alessio (CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Olsen, Veronica (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN)
Crystal collimation is studied as a possible scheme to further improve the efficiency of ion collimation at the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), as well as for possible applications in the CERN program of Physics Beyond Colliders. This concept relies on the use of bent crystals that can deflect high-energy halo particles at large angles, of the order of tens of urad. [...]

Power Deposition in Superconducting Dispersion Suppressor Magnets Downstream of the Betatron Cleaning Insertion for HL-LHC / Waets, Andreas (CERN) ; Bahamonde Castro, Cristina (CERN) ; Belli, Eleonora (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Fuster-Martínez, Nuria (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Mereghetti, Alessio (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Sabaté-Gilarte, Marta (CERN) ; Skordis, Eleftherios (CERN)
The power deposited in dispersion suppressor magnets downstream of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) betatron cleaning insertion is governed by off-momentum particles scattered out of the primary collimators. In order to mitigate the risk of magnet quenches during periods of short beam lifetime in future High-Luminosity (HL-LHC) operation, new dispersion suppressor (DS) collimators are considered for installation (one per beam). A Flexible Tool for Beam Induced Background Simulations at a Muon Collider / Collamati, Francesco (INFN, Rome) ; Aimè, Chiara (INFN, Pavia ; Pavia U.) ; Andreetto, Paolo (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Bartosik, Nazar (INFN, Turin) ; Buonincontri, Laura (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Casarsa, Massimo (INFN, Trieste) ; Curatolo, Camilla (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Gianelle, Alessio (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Lucchesi, Donatella (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Mereghetti, Alessio (CERN ; CNAO, Milan) et al.
A Muon Collider represents a very interesting possibility for a future machine to explore the energy frontier in particle physics. However, to reach the needed luminosity, beam intensities of the order of $10^{9-11}$ muons per bunch are needed. In this context, the Beam Induced Background must be taken into account for its effects on the magnets and on the detector. [...]

Conceptual design of an off-momentum collimation system in the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron for High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider proton beams / Patecki, Marcin (CERN) ; Mereghetti, Alessio (CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN)
The CERN accelerator complex is undergoing an upgrade in order to meet the requirements of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). One of the key needs is to increase the intensity of beams injected into the LHC from the current $1.15 \times 10^{11}$ to $2.3 \times 10^{11}$ $p^+ $ /bunch. [...]
