A shielding experiment using activation detectors was performed at the CERN High-energy AcceleRator Mixed-field (CHARM) facility and the CERN Shielding Benchmark Facility (CSBF). Neutron energy spectra down to thermal energy were measured using a Bonner sphere spectrometer (BSS) for various thicknesses of concrete and steel shielding at the CERN/CHARM facility, where high-energy neutrons were produced by 24-GeV/c protons incident on a thick copper target.
