The Beam Gas Curtain (BGC) monitor was installed in the beam one of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) during Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) and the Year-End Technical Stop (YETS) 2022. The monitor detects the fluorescence signal generated due to the interaction between the charged particle beams in the LHC and the neon atoms in the supersonic gas curtain. [...]

Hochsch.); Abe, Mahiro (Stanford U., Phys. Dept.); Abend, Sven (Leibniz U., Hannover); Abidi, Mouine (Leibniz U., Hannover); Aidelsburger, Monika (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt. ; Munich U. ; Munich U., ASC ; MCQST, Munich); Alibabaei, Ashkan (Leibniz U., Hannover); Allard, Baptiste (LCAR, Toulouse); Antoniadis, John (Athens U.); Arduini, Gianluigi (CERN); Augst, Nadja (DLR, Berlin) et al.
This summary of the second Terrestrial Very-Long-Baseline Atom Interferometry (TVLBAI) Workshop provides a comprehensive overview of our meeting held in London in April 2024, building on the initial discussions during the inaugural workshop held at CERN in March 2023. Like the summary of the first workshop, this document records a critical milestone for the international atom interferometry community. [...]

Adiabatic expansion cooling of antihydrogen / ALPHA Collaboration
Magnetically trapped antihydrogen atoms can be cooled by expanding the volume of the trap in which they are confined. We report a proof-of-principle experiment in which antiatoms are deliberately released from expanded and static traps. [...]

Gas jet-based beam profile monitor for the electron beam test stand at CERN / Stringer, O (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Zhang, H (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Ady, M (CERN) ; Butti, D (CERN) ; Churchman, A R (CERN) ; Forck, P (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Kumar, N (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Lefevre, T (CERN) ; Mazzoni, S (CERN) ; Sameed, M (CERN) et al.
A non-invasive bidirectional beam profile monitor using beam-induced fluorescence upon a thin sheet of gas has been developed at the Cockcroft Institute in collaboration with CERN and GSI. This device is particularly suited to the Electron Beam Test Stand, and as such, a bespoke gas injection has been optimized for this specific use-case to provide diagnostics unavailable to conventional scintillator screens. An electron beam test stand has been designed and constructed at CERN as part of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, in collaboration with the ARIES project, to test components related to the Hollow Electron Lens (HL-LHC) and the GSI Space Charge Compensation Electron Lens (ARIES). This comprehensive test facility incorporates normal conducting solenoid magnets, including horizontal and vertical correctors, which generate fields of fractional Tesla magnitude. [...]

Beam gas curtain monitor: Vacuum studies for LHC integration and operation / Castro Sequeiro, C (CERN) ; Ady, M (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN) ; Chatzigeorgiou, N (CERN) ; Churchman, A R (CERN) ; Kersevan, R (CERN) ; Lefevre, T (CERN) ; Mazzoni, S (CERN) ; Pigny, G (CERN) ; Rossi, A (CERN) et al.
A beam gas curtain (BGC) monitor has been designed to obtain information about the relative position between the LHC proton beam and the hollow electron lens electron beam through a minimally invasive process. Its working principle relies on intersecting the path of both beams with a supersonic gas curtain, introduced transversely into the LHC beamline, to produce a fluorescence signal. [...]
