Measurement of integrated gradient and field quality on the first Q2 magnets for HL-LHC / Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN) ; Todesco, Ezio (CERN) ; Mangiarotti, Franco (CERN) ; Deferne, Guy (CERN) ; Pentella, Mariano (CERN) ; Rogacki, Piotr (CERN) ; Russenschuck, Stephan (CERN) ; Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN)
The Q2 insertion quadrupoles for the High Luminosity upgrade of the LHC are currently being produced and tested. The test of the first units provides valuable information about the field quality of superconducting accelerator magnets built from Nb3Sn coils. [...]

Field description for magnets II / Russenschuck, Stephan (speaker) (CERN)
Instead of asking what are vector fields, or what is the difference between the magnetic field intensity H and the magnetic flux density B, it is more meaningful to ask what they do or describe: Vector fields are mappings that assign to each point of the domain, one and only one bound vector from the domain's tangent space. Electric fields, represented by the gradient of a scalar field, require a three-dimensional affine (point) space and a scalar product  of its associated linear (vector) space. [...]

Overview Design of accelerator magnets / Russenschuck, Stephan (speaker) (CERN)
The design, construction, and operation of accelerator magnets, particularly those employing superconductor technology, pose challenges in all domains of physics and engineering. These challenges include: Material science aspects, such as the development of superconducting wires and cables, the specification of austenitic and magnetic steel, and the choice of radiation-resistant insulation. [...]

Alignment of a Solenoid System by Means of a Translating-Coil Magnetometer / Pentella, Mariano (CERN) ; Kjellqvist, Ville Mattias Mattsson (CERN) ; Petrone, Carlo (CERN) ; Russenschuck, Stephan (CERN) ; von Freeden, L (CERN)
The electron cooler operating at the Antiproton Decelerator (AD) at CERN is at the end of its life cycle. The electron cooler, operated for over 40 years, has been used to decelerate anti-proton beams having an energy of about 5.3 MeV. [...]

Overview of Identified Challenges in the Development Process of Superconducting Accelerator Magnets / Kaeske, Jens (CERN ; KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Fiscarelli, Lucio (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Albers, Albert (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Russenschuck, Stephan (CERN)
Development challenges in the domain of superconducting magnets are concentrated on technical problems in the current literature. Organizational, domain-specific challenges are often seen as secondary but must be considered with new holistic development approaches like Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) becoming more popular. [...]

Combination of Measurement Data and Domain Knowledge for Simulation of Halbach Arrays With Bayesian Inference / Fleig, Luisa (CERN ; Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Liebsch, Melvin (CERN) ; Russenschuck, Stephan (CERN) ; Schöps, Sebastian (Darmstadt, Tech. U.)
Accelerator magnets made from blocks of permanent magnets in a zero-clearance configuration are known as Halbach arrays. The objective of this work is the fusion of knowledge from different measurement sources (material and field) and domain knowledge (magnetostatics) to obtain an updated magnet model of a Halbach array. [...]

A Translating-Coil Magnetometer for the Magnetic Measurements of the HL-LHC High-Order Corrector Magnets at Room Temperature / Pentella, Mariano (CERN) ; Dalane, Eivind (CERN) ; De Matteis, Ernesto (LASA, Segrate) ; Gautheron, Emma L (CERN) ; Mariotto, Samuele (LASA, Segrate) ; Petrone, Carlo (CERN) ; Prin, Herve (CERN) ; Prioli, Marco (LASA, Segrate) ; Russenschuck, Stephan (CERN) ; Statera, Marco (LASA, Segrate) et al.
This article describes the design and development of a translating-coil magnetometer for the room-temperature magnetic measurements of the superferric, high-order corrector magnets for the high-luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN (HL-LHC). The measurement system consists of a set of induction coils, tangentially positioned on a measurement head. [...]

Encoder-Less Acquisition System for Rotating-Coil Measurements / Rogacki, Piotr (CERN) ; Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN) ; Russenschuck, Stephan (CERN)
The established approach to rotating-coil measurements involves the integration of the induced voltage signal, triggered by an angular encoder, to re-parameterize the signal from time to the traveled arc length. The encoder is thus deemed necessary to ensure the rejection of speed variation errors. [...]

A promising modality of radiation therapy is FLASH: a technique in which the full radiation dose is delivered in just 1/10th of a second. This modality has been proven successful in destroying cancerous cells while sparing healthy tissues. [...]
